Article: What Bush v. Gore Cost Us

When the US Supreme Court usurped Florida's sovereign right to manage its own elections, and appointed Bush because, "...counting votes could be unfair to George W. Bush...", and ushered in the pet of oil and banking interests, The US suffered a grievous attack. We lost the Bill of Rights, New Orleans, twenty-two trillion dollars in loans to foreign banks and debt; we lost torture, incommunicado imprisonment without charges, and the Statue of Justice; we lost our supremacy as human beings before the bar of law; we lost schoolteachers, the Gulf of Mexico, a million Iraqis, employment; we lost the one civilized tool to defend us from aristocracy and the banks and corporations subjugation by wealth. We lost the very DNA of life itself, which now can be patented.
The Justices held a straight-razor to our throats and said, "Nice country you got here. Shame if something happened to it." This attack had the same intent as the attack on Fort. Sumpter, which started the Civil War. Seen in the perspective of history, it forms a pattern. "Iran-Contra" cost us. JFK cost us. And those not in the club are all set up to take the blame for arrogant wealth's slap in the face. Like the bankers of Napoleon and Hitler, they've found nothing so profitable as war. But, given an opponent to blame for their depredations, they burrow in deeper, like the leeches they are. The founders warned us about these guys. A more enlightened view would be that they are damaged in some way, and not fit to be loose in civilization. Is anyone surprised that women still lack equal rights? Most of the Bill of Rights was abolished under the Patriot Act. The Magna Carta was abolished under the Military Commissions Act.
And all this from an illegal usurpation of states' rights. The Court has become a cancer on the body of popular government. Evidently it has lost all respect for inalienable rights. But that's OK. Inalienable rights will still be there when the current Court is gone. Democracy works because people must be democratic to survive. And 99% of seven billion folks got along fine today. It's one thing to assault democracy, quite another to think you can get away with it.
