A minor revolution is erupting in our nation's capitol as Tea Party anarchists are storming the gates of the embedded government bureaucracy. Let's call this a war of extremes in which one side wants to destroy the government and the other is determined to maintain and even increase its size. Tea Party anarchists, aka pseudo-legislators, have only one objective in mind: they hate government and everything it stands for and they want to bring it down.
So what's an anarchist? It's a "Person who rebels against authority, established order, or ruling power; one that follows a doctrine urging the abolition of government or extensive governmental restraint as the indispensable condition for full social and political liberty."
Opposing the anarchists are the Washington bureaucrats whose objective is not only to maintain the status quo of this bloated government but to continue to expand it. They are embedded in the Congress, the Pentagon, the State and Defense Departments, the CIA, Homeland Security, the NSA spying agency, and 15 other intelligence agencies located throughout this government; and that's only the tip of the iceberg.
When Ronald Reagan said that, "Government is not the answer to our problems, it is the problem" he should have said, "Big, ineffective government is a massive problem and the answer is to streamline it and make it more effective." In thinking of government and its proper role let's recall the much wiser words of John Adams, one of the Founding Fathers and one of the main contributors to the U.S Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. And then let's compare his words with those who are determined to tear this government down.
John Adams, Thoughts on Government, 1776 : " Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity and happiness of the people; and not for the profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men: Therefore the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity and happiness require it."
This statement by Adams was not just his personal opinion, it was something that was shared by many of his fellow American patriots, Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Paine, and others who not only thought in these terms but included a large portion of them in the U.S. Constitution.
We know of the courage and wisdom of these founding patriots and what they stood for; country, the betterment of their fellow Americans, and an honorable government. But when I refer to those anarchists who are at the gates, who exactly are they and what do they stand for?
In the House of Representatives, the Tea Party Caucus consists of 47 members. In the Senate it has six members. While this Congress has proven to be one of the worst in American history, one whose approval ratings are at rock bottom, the sudden entry of many members of the Tea Party into Congress in the elections of 2008 have, if you can believe it, made things far, far worse with more and more dissension and far more gridlock.
I reviewed the Tea Party Platform and I actually agree with many of its provisions such as: eliminate excessive taxes, eliminate the national debt and deficit spending, encourage civic responsibility, "believe in the people", and abide by the U.S. Constitution. What person loyal to this country could possibly argue with those points?
So in theory their stated beliefs would seem to be exemplary but in practice that has not been the case. Words alone don't mean a thing. "It's not what you say but, rather, what you do." Listening to those who are considered to be Tea Party leaders, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz (aka the mouth that roars), Mike Lee, and Rand Paul should elicit great concern among the people of America.
Their platform says they want to reduce the size of government but their policies and actions show that their goal is to destroy it; yes, they want to eliminate taxes, that is, for their rich brethren; they want to eliminate the national debt and deficits by tearing down Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; they, in their disdain for others who are not like themselves, primarily minorities, say that these social programs are unconstitutional and that those Americans struggling to survive must fend for themselves and stop relying on the government for help. These self-proclaimed patriots have regularly been quoted using the worst kind of insults and belittling comments; some don't even try to disguise their hatred of certain segments of this country's population.
You might watch this video for an example of their open loathing of certain people in America, in this case a portion of which includes insults seemingly aimed at minorities. Is this what their platform means by "believe in the people" or the words of "All men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence?" Talk about twisted ideology and overt contempt of others! These kind of vitriolic attacks are reminiscent of the talk of "Racial purity" loudly voiced many decades ago. We don't need a return of that in America.
Now let's talk about the government that these Tea Party anarchists want so badly to destroy, that bloated, wasteful, bureaucracy and the many elements of it that actually need to be overhauled, and some eliminated. It's impossible to talk about them all because there are so many so we need to concentrate on just one example of extreme government waste that is contributing so much to our national debt and deficits. A great example of gross government waste involves the following agencies, many of which are performing redundant tasks with overlapping responsibilities, an indication of a tremendous waste of taxpayer dollars: We have the FBI, the CIA, and the Homeland Security Department. Then we have the monstrous NSA spying agency that collects billions of daily communications of the people of America, as well as those of countries and individuals all over the world, even those considered to be our allies. And, if the above agencies were not enough to guarantee the safety of the American people, we have another 15 separate intelligence agencies.
