From the author:
The story is fiction. It was once published on-line and the magazine since vanished, so I think, no harm done to do it here. It reflects my perception about real way to secure people and it should be relevant to current events associated with the gun violence. Seems relevant to me.
"I saw you on TV," I said to the tall man with mustache. "I have a snapshot memory."
"Too bad," he said
He came alone. The cab dropped him off at our door and raced away. We checked the street from top to bottom.. He was clean.
"How did you find out our HQ?"
"I am a Prime- Minister. It's good to have friends in high places. Other Prime- Ministers, they talk, you know--
"New country, eh?"
"Our country existed long before this land was even discovered. That Columbus of yours, his grandfather led caravans to our country. We are not new. We are very old."
"How do I address you? And why didn't you invite us to your office if you need protection?"
He was looking over my head at the painting, "Nice dogs. Those dogs won't abandon their master like you did recently with a good friend of mine."
"They blew up his palace. There was nothing we could do."
"Ah yes, the palace. That was his mistake, of course. Those palaces, those BMWs, those dashing women. One of them had a bomb. I prefer cabbies. They see everything. They saw his limo once standing here"."
"May I say, Sir, you sound like a very smart man."
"I have to be. I don't blame you for the palace issue; you don't protect property, only people. But it was your duty to drag my friend out, right? Still, you are the best. That' why I came here to commission your services."
