Let's See How Our "Free Press" Covers Impeachment

Impeachment is the means by which Congress can tell the executive and judicial branches to follow the law, but so far, only a handful of courageous members have pushed for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Others may join in the push to require the legislative branch to do its duty and hold the executive and judicial branches accountable. However, that depends on who knows and what they know about the grounds for impeachment.

Will the "news" media cover the impeachment hearings in a fair and balanced way, will it try to put a spin on impeachment to try to undermine and avert further investigation and hearings, or will it just try to keep as many people as possible in the dark because it realizes that there is no way to fool the public in to believing that impeachment is baseless?

Let's see how our "free press" is working on July 26, 2008, the day after C-Span covered the House Judiciary Committee's hearings on impeachment. Curiously, I haven't heard anything from CNN, HNN, or MSNBC about these hearings this morning, and I didn't even waste time looking at ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX. However, when a couple of callers mentioned the lack of coverage by the "news" media this morning on C-Span's Washington Journal, the host said that it was getting coverage in the papers.

Of course, that raised my curiosity as I have been interested in media reform since I first shared evidence of case fixing by members of Florida's courts back in 2004 with my local "news" media. As you can imagine, it was not covered by most of those "news" outlets, and one went as far as running a story which covered up for the evidence of criminal activity presented to it. By the way, covering up evidence of a crime is also a crime.

Anyway, I have also seen how Florida's "news" media worked to help arrange the election of Republican Charlie Crist as Governor in 2006 by covering up the news that he is gay (see the links to the only coverage of that at the end of this article) and how Florida's "news" media worked to cover-up the evidence of wide-spread election fraud in Florida in 2006 and the biggest Congressional election contest brought in history. Of course, what can you expect if the "free press" is owned by a small media cartel run by those who apparently believe that it is more beneficial to cover up government corruption than it is to expose it.

Still, would the "news" cartel risk ignoring the impeachment hearings thereby causing further damage to its credibility, and would the elites who control our "news" cartel ignore impeachment even though it is obvious that such a "news" blackout would risk the continuation of our democratic republic by undermining the power of Congress to hold the President accountable? In other words, do the elites who control the "news" media cartel want to undermine our form of government in order to revert to a form of feudalism, a.k.a fascism, which has historically brought about economic ruin, violence, and suffering or are they just really that arrogant and ignorant?

Curiously, the St. Petersburg Times (the so-called bastion of the "liberal" media and the "free press") didn't think that impeachment hearings were front page news. See the St. Pete Times front page on July 26, 2008, the day after the impeachment hearings.

So, the St. Pete Times didn't think that impeachment hearings were front page news, but surely, the Times would mention the impeachment hearings on the front page of its online news, right? Unfortunately, no! Once again, no mention of impeachment.

Certainly, you would think that the St. Pete Times would mention the impeachment hearings somewhere sometime around the date of the House Judiciary Committee's hearings on impeachment. But once again, your reasonable expectations are wrong, the product of a time not too long ago when our country had a free and competitive press which was not under the thumbs of fools who control a cartel. Unbelievably, there is no mention of impeachment published in the Times since June 12, 2008. See the amazing lack of coverage shown by a search of the Times' web site for impeachment See the most recent article about impeachment that the Times published in the paper on June 12, 2008, and see the Times' most recent online article about impeachment from June 11, 2008.

Well, I could go on in search of some newspaper somewhere that still has some understanding of the importance of informing the public of fundamentally important events like impeachment of a President who has 36 articles of impeachment filed against him. See some real news coverage of impeachment at one bastion of the free press, the Village Voice

I'm sure that many who work in the press understand the serious need for coverage of the impeachment matter, but unfortunately, most no longer have the ability to report on news like this. The elite fools who run the "news" cartel want to keep government corruption secret at all costs, even if it means that our form of government and the peace and prosperity which once flowed from it will likely be lost and even though the suffering which follows will be due in large part to their foolish "news" blackout.

Of course, the defenders of media consolidation always say that it isn't dangerous because of all of the news that people get on the internet. Well, let's test that claim. Let's see if we can force our local "news" outlets to cover impeachment. It's not that difficult. After all, they say that the internet can do what a competitive free press used to do, so let's see. All we have to do is email a link to this article to our contacts and write a letter to our local paper. Let's see if the internet is really that powerful.

Please spread the news about this "news" blackout to all of your contacts. It may be the only way that many will learn about the impeachment hearings and the dangers which have resulted from allowing a cartel to swallow up all but a few media outlets in our country.

Also, if your local paper has run an article or editorial about impeachment, please post a link in a comment, and if not, please post a comment noting your local paper's lack of coverage. Finally, write a letter to your local paper and tell them if they do not cover impeachment this week, then you will cancel your subscription, and if they don't, cancel your subscription and quit supporting their lies and propaganda!!!

Take the poll - Do you think that impeachment is newsworthy?

I am active in the election, judicial and media reform movements. I obtained the first injunctions getting a third party candidate into debates, and I have handled more Congressional election contests than any other attorney. I practiced (more...)
