Jon Stewart starts off the segment on the Penn State Joe Paterno story by recounting how an over six foot tall assistant coach witnessed one of the head coaches raping a ten year old in the shower, and didn't stop him, then call the police, nor call the police to stop him. Instead, over the next few days, the child molester was punished by having his key's to the locker-room taken away.
Then, Stewart shows crowds of Penn State students in the streets. He reports that they turned over a media van, and comments,
"I don't want to jump to conclusions here, but it appears the street riot was in response to coachPaterno's firing.
"I guess it's hard for you to believe that this guy that you think is infallible and this program you think is sacred could hide such heinous activites.
"But there is some precedent for that.
"Yeah.
"And just like with the Catholic church, no-one's trying to take away your religion-- in this case football.
