Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) declared that unemployment benefits are bad for the economy because they encourage people to stay jobless.....Source: Raw Story
Seanator Kyl is the second ranking Republican in the Senate, which shows that the Republican Party is being led by morons.
What often amazes me is how the clearly stupid can get elected to such positions of leadership.
But I know I shouldn't be amazed.
So, unemployment benefits are making the unemployed turn down jobs because they have it too good. Or at least that is what Kyl, is saying.
Those that get unemployment benefits, according to Kyl, will turn down a job because they like getting paid about a third of what they are normally used to getting. They also like the security of knowing that at some point in the near future (weeks or months, depending) those unemployment checks will be gone. They will, obviously, enjoy themselves sucking from the system.
Another big bonus to those unemployment bums that suck from the system by taking benefits is the COBRA health care option. COBRA allows the newly laid off the option of purchasing health insurance at exorbitant rates. In many cases, those that receive unemployment benefits find that most of that money goes to pay for their COBRA health insurance. It is clear to Kyl that those getting these wonderful unemployment benefits just want to stay unemployed and suck off the system.
But I have been unemployed at times. Most of those times I was unfortunate enough that I didn't qualify to receive any unemployment benefits. A couple of other times, I was lucky enough to get unemployment benefits. But here's the deal. I was desperate to find work at everyone of those times. Even when I was receiving the small amount of unemployment money, it didn't cover much and I knew that in a short period I would be without any money. Also I never could even afford to pay for the COBRA option so that wasn't any reason not to work.
So unemployed Americans, with or without benefits, do what they can to find work. But to a fat cat idiot, fully funded and padded by corporate America, like Kyl, unemployed Americans are lazy and those that get unemployment benefits are leeches just out for a free ride.
Strange I didn't hear a thing from Kyl telling the Banksters that the trillions in welfare benefits taken from the American taxpayers would only encourage those financial rip off artists to continue to engage in reckless banking activities. But then Kyl is not only an idiot but a useful idiot, like nearly all of our political puppets.
