Foreclosure bill: With Democratic Senators like this, who needs enemies?

The Senate voted on S. 896 yesterday also known as, “Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009” This bill was, “To prevent mortgage foreclosures and preserve home values.

Before I get into my tirade against those who voted against this meritorious bill, the definition of a home is, “any place of residence or refuge:a heavenly home” As defined on Dictionary.com.  Another definition is, the place in which one's domestic affections are centered.”

There is absolutely no affection coming from those who voted against this bill which protects a family from being tossed out on the street and locked out of their homes.  As senators enjoy at the will of the people two homes; one in their home state and one in Washington, those negatively affected by this bill will have zero.

This bill failed with 51 senators voting against it, 45 voting for it and 3 not voting.

As I was looking at the list of those who voted ‘Nay’ to this bill, of course, all were Republican who has become the ‘Party of No’ as of late.  But, shamefully they were joined by many Democrats.  Twelve in total and included in that total was the new Democratic senator from Pennsylvania, Arlen Specter.

When Specter said he would not be an automatic rubber-stamp for President Barack Obama, by voting against this bill, he stomped on countless Americans hopes and dreams.  Not a good way to start off one’s continued career as a senator, especially a Democratic one.  How many within his state will be tossed out of their homes so he can go onto win yet another term?  If this is the way he is going to vote, Democrats can forget about their sixty-seat super-majority when and if Al Franken is seated.

While many heralded his decision, I held back because it is how one votes on behalf of the people and not what party they belong to.  Specter, you did the people dirty in voting against this bill.  Shame on you!

At times, I have written as an activist journalist asking those who read my columns to spring into action letting the offenders know of their anger and in this column, I will do so again.

On behalf of those who sought protection from their government, namely the Democrats listed below, I ask of you to call their offices in Washington, D.C. and let them hear your voices.  They need to be told, with Democrats like you, who needs enemies?

Senator Max Baucus (D-MT)         (202) 224-2651

Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO)     (202) 224-5852

Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV)         (202) 224-3954

Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE)      (202) 224-2441

Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND)        (202) 224-2551

Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD)         (202) 224-5842

Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA)       (202) 224-5824
