Freedom, Serfdom or Slavery?

Message JON LARSEN

I am amazed. I am pained. But, mostly I'm disgusted and appalled with the self-serving and dishonest behavior of those who pretend to represent the poor of our inner-cities and our now-shrinking middle class. I'm also disgusted with those who pretend to defend the American way of life and invoke blind patriotism to our corrupt government.

President Obama seems determined to reach a "compromise" with the corporatist, right-wing Republican Party by abandoning all of our social programs for our elderly, handicapped, disadvantaged, young and poor. This disaster could be accomplished piecemeal or all at once, which Obama prefers, to secure the "Big Deal."

The corporate world has found support for turning us all into serfs or slaves not only through the person of Obama, the corporatist Democratic President, but also through the editorializing of "news" commentators who pretend to speak the truth. These lies serve to exercise control over much of the inner-city poor, disenfranchised laboring class and much of the middle class who have been so consistently lied to that they have come to accept the corporate "news" as truth.

This dog-and-pony show is confusing.

What needs to be understood is that the terms "Democrat" and "Republican" don't have much meaning anymore.

What has meaning is the huge numbers of Senators and Representatives from both sides of the isle as well as Obama, whose allegiances have been purchased by the mega-corporations for their own benefit and not ours.

The charade makes it seem to ordinary Republicans that Boehner and Co. are trying to save America from the Democrats, who have been wrongly accused of putting us deeply in debt because of social programs, bailing out the billionaires and Wall Street "gambling banks," favoring United Nations actions against our 2nd Amendment Right to own guns, endangering our economy with environmental regulations, and more.

To the ordinary Democrats, this facade is designed to convince us that we need saving from the violence of inner-city crime caused by guns. It does not address the increasing social and economic inequality produced by the exportation of millions of jobs to China where sweat-shop wages are typically $0.22 per hour and the mega-corporations pay NO taxes.

Democrats are told that Obama is doing the best he can. Meanwhile, Bradley Manning is imprisoned for exposing the truth, wars of aggression are fought to increase war-profiteering corporations' wealth to five times what it was nine years ago, and torture and assassinations have become acceptable and common. Past, present and future Goldman Sachs employees are placed in powerful positions in government. Diebold's machines guarantee corporate control of election results. Monsanto controls corn and soybean production. Wal-Mart becomes the largest grocery chain.

Obama, by his willingness to "compromise" away our more than self-supporting Social Security, when no compromise of our rights to this and other social programs can be acceptable, puts the very lives of us all in jeopardy if these programs are lost. The debt ceiling does need to be raised so that the United States can pay its current -- not future -- debts. What is needed is to severely cut the future spending for WAR and for so-called Homeland Security. These two budget items have been taken off the bargaining table. The returning of income taxes for corporations and billionaires to pre-Reagan levels is not being considered.

The giant corporate "machine" for profit and control of the world is destroying the environment and stealing what we individually and collectively own: our homes, farms, ranches, small and large businesses, national and state parks, forests, hospitals and schools.

It is all up for grabs by the mega-corporations. All of the world's religions condemn such insane GREED.

We must unite. We must unite to preserve what is left of Democracy and Freedom.

Does anyone believe that the future of the entire world is not at stake?
