According to report, in its biggest arms deal ever, the United States announced it will sell up to 60 billion dollars worth of warplanes, helicopters and other weapons to Saudi Arabia, partly to help it counter Iran.
The plan allows for the sale of 84 F-15 fighter jets, 70 Apache attack helicopters, 72 tactical Black Hawk helicopters and 36 light helicopters, assistant secretary for political-military affairs Andrew Shapiro said.
The sale, which also includes the upgrade of 70 used F-15s, is "not to exceed 60 billion" dollars, Shapiro told reporters as President Barack Obama's administration notified Congress of its plans to make the deal.
According to another report carried by almost all newspapers of Pakistan, The Obama administration is laying out a new multiyear, $2 billion military aid package for Pakistan. The new aid comes as the U.S. presses the Islamabad government to step up the fight against extremists in Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton announced the plan Friday at the end of the latest round of U.S.-Pakistani strategic talks. Clinton says the administration will ask Congress for $2 billion for Pakistan to purchase U.S.-made arms, ammunition and accessories between 2012 and 2016.
The new military aid replaces a similar but less valuable package that began in 2005 and expired on Oct. 1. It will complement $7.5 billion in civilian assistance the administration has already committed to Pakistan over five years.
Though Obama is my hero and the hero of other millions of people, but this latest arm deal with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has created a wave of resentment among the people. Actually the people living in the war zone have seen the destruction with their own eyes. There will be no denying the fact that the people of Pakistan have been needing food not weapons.
