America's Children Live In Fear While The U.S. Congress Provides Protection To The Gun Industry

Welcome to the American shooting gallery in which the targets are the people of America and, increasingly, its children. What's going on can only be described as a form of societal madness. Developing effective gun safety regulations to combat the growing violence in America should be a no-brainer; that is, if those in charge possessed a reasonable amount of intelligence and any sense of morality. They possess neither.

The pathetic politicians who have contaminated this Congress and the legislative process have the power to create effective laws that would lay the groundwork for greatly reducing the needless slaughter of an escalating number of innocent Americans; especially the helpless children who are    becoming the prime targets of the monsters in our society who are given every opportunity to possess these weapons of societal destruction.

But does this grave situation and the deaths of these children bother these politicians? Absolutely not, as they are determined to protect the gun industry at all costs. This has now gone much too far and, so, we must clearly identify those politicians who are directly responsible for and guilty of the carnage that is being caused in this society by these deadly weapons that should not be in the possession of anyone in America; weapons that are designed for only one purpose and that is to kill scores of people in a matter of minutes.

Without question, the guiltiest are the Republicans and their masters, the gun lobbies and the gun manufacturers. Republicans have proven that they care not a whit about the slaughter of these children; they will fight to protect the interests of those who profit from the proliferation of weaponry and will do anything to obstruct the creation of legislation that would serve to bring this situation under control. They are beyond any form of mental rehabilitation and there is only one thing to be done; they must be stopped in their tracks.

Now let's proceed to identifying the other individuals who need to be excoriated for their unconscionable refusal to take appropriate action that would stop the rapidly escalating bloodbath that is taking place in this society. The Democratic Party, with a few notable exceptions, must share the guilt and take responsibility for allowing this carnage to continue unabated, and failing to provide strong leadership when it is critically needed.

At the head of the list of Democrats who are the most responsible for failing to address this issue in an intelligent, moral way has to be Harry Reid, the sorely under-qualified Senate Majority Leader. You know, good old weak-kneed, Harry who has twice backed down and caved in to pressure from Sociopathic Republicans and cowardly Democrats and failed to change the Senate filibuster rules that would put a stop to Republican obstruction of important legislation.

On the Republican side we have the likes of Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and Eric Cantor, no more than empty shells, who don't even try to hide the fact that they are indentured servants of Corporate America and the gun lobbies. The Republicans, in lockstep, fully intend to prevent the initiation of legislation to ban assault weapons, to institute stronger background checks and to limit the size of ammunition magazines. And while they are in the process of this obstruction we hear good old Harry lamenting that he can't proceed to bring such legislation to a vote because he doesn't have the 60 votes needed to avoid a GOP filibuster.

"I'm not going to try to put something on the floor that won't succeed," Reid added. "I think the worst of all worlds would be to bring something to the floor and it dies there." He also said, "But right now, her (Senator Diane Feinstein) amendment, using the most optimistic numbers, has less than 40 votes. That's not 60. I have to get something on the floor."
