The Strait of Hormuz (red arrow) relative to Iran
Yesterday a car bomb killed an Iranian nuclear scientist in downtown Tehran.
It was the fifth such assassination of an Iranian nuclear scientist since 2007 while a sixth scientist survived an attack in 2010.
In response the Iranian government accused both Israel and the U.S. for being behind the attack.
Meanwhile the White House "strongly condemned the attack and a spokesman for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "categorically denied any U.S. involvement" while the secretary herself said, "We believe that there has to be an understanding between Iran, its neighbors and the international community that finds a way forward for it to end its "provocative behavior', end its search for nuclear weapons and rejoin the international community."
The Israeli reaction was confined to a military spokesman writing in Facebook, "I don't know who took revenge on the Iranian scientist, but I'm definitely not shedding a tear."
So there you have it. An Iranian nuclear scientist assassinated in the Iranian capitol and its two most hated adversaries saying it wasn't them.
Are they kidding? Who in the world believes them? What country has historically engaged in more covert operations, targeted assassinations, coups and the overthrow of foreign governments than the U.S. And Israel is notorious for clandestinely targeting and assassinating Palestinians and holocaust collaborators.
Throw in the American/Israeli "Stuxnet" campaign of cyber attacks whereby a computer worm is surreptitiously installed in Iranian nuclear facility computers that sabotages centrifuges enriching uranium and the "evidence", though circumstantial, points unmistakably at the U.S. and Israel.
Besides who outside the U.S. and Israel believe the White House or Secretary Clinton's "denials"? And just what countries are exhibiting "provocative behavior"?
The Israeli's have wanted to bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities ever since 2007 but were deterred by President Bush (his one and only positive diplomatic achievement) when his NIE, (national intelligence estimate) conducted by 17 U.S. intelligence agencies ALL concluded Iran suspended its nuclear bomb aspirations in 2003.
So even if the "evidence" isn't 100% iron clad implicating the U.S. and the Israeli's in this latest assassination in Iran, too much recent history can't be ignored.
