ENVISION THIS...Changing MEMES instead of enacting PROGRAMS to stop us from devastating the world.
Our guest, Daniel Quinn, author of ISHMAEL and many other books, explains in BEYOND CIVILIZATION: " Here's how old minds think of stopping us. They think of stopping us the way they stopped poverty, the way they stopped drug abuse, the way they stopped crime: with programs...This is why I can confidently predict that if the world is saved, it will not be by old minds with new programs but by new minds with no programs at all. Programs never stop the things they're launched to stop. No program has ever stopped poverty, drug abuse, or crime, and no program ever will stop them. And no program will ever stop us from devastating the world...We can only do it the way it's always done: one meme at a time."
Quinn is an original thinker that is able to think outside the box of western culture. He is truly one of the great leaders of our age. His work should be counted alongside with psychiatrist Carl Jung, mythologist Joseph Campbell, Deep Ecologists Theordore Rozack and Chellis Glendinning, and physicist David Bohm. His work and understanding of the world has been indeed instrumental to the cultivation of many who wish to look upon the world with new eyes. His is not an ordinary way of seeing things.
His is definitely a leaving behind the "meme" of the world we have, and the cultivation of a new "meme." Come learn more about "memes" and how they suppress us and, ultimately, can free us. "Memes" are important, and their identification and change could be the difference between mass extinction that includes the human race or survival and the thriving/evolution of the planet.
Memes
are communal ideas, analogous to genes in that they self-replicate and
mutate. Memes spread from person to person and generation to generation
within a culture. Through education, each of us receives a complete set
of our culture's memes, just as, through reproduction, each of us
receives a complete set of our parents' genes.
Our modern memes are killing us and the planet. We need new memes.
This Wed evening Quinn will share with us his inspiring vision of how it works...if enough of us embrace new memes in place of deadly ones like "we must cling to civilization at all costs, even if it kills us."
Please join us at 8:00 pm Wed evening when we interview Daniel Quinn live. Feel free to call with questions. If you cannot make it, not to worry. The show will be archived.
