It's Your Turn Karl

I have frankly had enough! Karl Rove’s aide, J. Scott Jennings, who bemoaned the fact that he is only 29 is the most ridiculous thing that I’ve ever heard in my life. When I was 29 years old I had my finger on a nuclear (should I say “multiple” nuclear triggers) when I was a Sergeant in the Army in Germany. For this punk to claim:

"I hope that you can appreciate the difficulty of my situation," Jennings said. "It makes Odysseus' voyage between Scylla and Charybdis seem like a pleasure cruise."

This is patently ridiculous. He put himself in that position. (Being between two monsters, and if you row away from one, you’re headed toward the other.) If this aide believes that Congress is the same brand on “monster” that the Bush Administration is, then he should be considered “mentally defect” and be evaluated by a Congress-appointed shrink. Either the aide tells the truth about what Congress wants to know, or he should be held in contempt and serve time.

For Karl Rove to show “good faith” toward Congress by sending his aide to Congress is deplorable. That this aide can decide what he can answer with a lawyer present and what he can't due to “executive privilege” is a cheap and cowardly way to avoid the hard questions that only Rove can “enlighten” Congress on. Is Karl Rove above the law? I don’t believe he is, in fact even the President is not above the law.

Congress wants the truth behind the Attorney firings, and they are not going to stop until they get the answers that they are seeking. The longer that Bush and Rove play games with the Judiciary Committee, the more they will sink into the same kind of abyss that Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton sank into. There is no way out for this Administration as long as Senator Patrick Leahy sticks to the principles that has guided other Chairmen of past Judiciary Committees. We may finally see Karl Rove in front of Congress either telling the truth, or facing imprisonment for contempt of Congress. This is how our government works Karl. You can get with the program, and understand how our government is supposed to function or step down and find yourself in front of Congress as an average citizen. Either way, it’s going to happen, and it’s going to happen to you.

This kind of article gives me great joy to write. I’ve written many articles that were nothing but pure frustration and angst. Finally, I have something to write about that now feels like a salve on my soul. Senator Leahy will forever be one of my greatest heroes, if he stands his ground. I feel some hope for our nation. We should all be writing our elected officials and telling them to back the Judiciary Committee. The fun and games that Bush and Cheney have played are about to end. Let them obey the laws of the land like the rest of us.
