Democrats Fail at Promise of VA Budget on Veterans' Day

By       (Page 1 of 1 pages)   1 comment
I've been doing a lot of Bush-bashing; pointing out, for example, that under President Bush the number of veterans without health insurance has increased by more than 200,000, that under Bush disabled veterans have to wait six months for the VA to process their paperwork, and that under Bush the Pentagon has been concealing the real number of casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So it seems only fair to point out that the Democrats are able to break their promises to veterans too. Democrats are able to break their promises to veterans too. Two weeks ago, Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid promised the American Legion Congress would pass a VA budget by Veterans Day.

VA Watchdog writes: "I figured it was only fair to let the Republicans have at the Democrats over the matter."

The delay is important because hundreds of thousands of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are being discharged from the military and need care from the VA, which is already stretched far too thin. Democrats in Congress have been planning to increase funding for veterans' medical care and disability benefits, but the money won't actually be there for veterans unless the appropriations bill makes it to President Bush and the President signs it.

Did you know?

Only 3% of the veterans who started college in 1995 earned a bachelor's degree by 2001 compared with 30% of the students who were not veterans.

How well do you know your facts about U.S. veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan? Take the War Comes Home "Did You Know?" Quiz and find out!
