So it seems only fair to point out that the Democrats are able to break their promises to veterans too. Democrats are able to break their promises to veterans too. Two weeks ago, Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid promised the American Legion Congress would pass a VA budget by Veterans Day.
VA Watchdog writes: "I figured it was only fair to let the Republicans have at the Democrats over the matter."
The delay is important because hundreds of thousands of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are being discharged from the military and need care from the VA, which is already stretched far too thin. Democrats in Congress have been planning to increase funding for veterans' medical care and disability benefits, but the money won't actually be there for veterans unless the appropriations bill makes it to President Bush and the President signs it.
