Once again the rumblings of the need for gun laws rises up as some American are once again sickened by the massacre of innocent people. This time it is youngsters who have been deprived of life due to an assumed mentally ill youth who had the opportunity to have assault weapons that he could use to vent his sickness.
As many of us grieve the tragic loss of so many little ones and those who attempted to protect them we are blasted by those who not only appear unconcerned of this needless loss, but are in their paid-for-selling mode as they throw out the many possible excuses for this occurring, none of which are the attack weapons that did the killing.
Of course these paid-by-the-NRA folks contend that the shooter had mental illness, and have thrown out a wide variety of possible ailments that, as they contend, he would have killed anyway and the attack weapons had nothing to do with the result. We are to believe that had he not had those weapons he would have strangled those 27, or maybe stabbed them, or if he had had a typical hunting rifle would have reloaded some 20-25 times in order to have killed and maimed so many in such a short period of time.
Others suggest that if people at the school would have had weapons of their own they might have stopped the shooter. Such a suggestion may well have had the outcome of killing the shooter, which he did himself, but may well have resulted in even more killings and/or injuries as there would have definitely been a cross-fire.
One crazy, looking-for-NRA-backing one can be certain, has even suggested that this happened because we took God out of the schools. My remark is simply, "God is everywhere. Maybe this was his way of telling us how moronic we have become by legalizing weapons of this magnitude so anybody who has the money can have as many as they wish."
Now I am not against guns that can be used for hunting. It just seems the venison may not be as tasty with 30 or more rounds of lead pumped into it.
The non-hunters say it is their right, given by the 2nd Amendment, to possess these weapons. Actually, the 2nd Amendment does not give individuals the right to own guns unless a part of "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I dare say none presently exist other than those already in existence, namely the US Military, the National Guard, and the police. Now of course the paid-for legislators have passed "kill at will" laws whereby any individual could not only carry a weapon, but use it at will should they feel threatened, real or not.
Some even suggest they enjoy these assault weapons by shredding targets. This is fine; however, seeing our legislators are constantly looking to profitize everything in our lives, why not shooting ranges where individuals can rent weapons of their choice and shred as many targets as they wish. They will have obtained their pleasure of firing a military-type weapon without having to endure the hard work of joining the military and some entrepreneur will have made a profit while no lives would have been lost in the process. Then, too, I may be wrong and there really isn't that much of a demand of people wanting to fire these war weapons, at least not enough to make it profitable; hence, we will go on with the NRA gerbils going on TV and telling us it is not the weapons that are killing, but the people. They will even go further by suggesting we should all purchase these weapons for our own protection.
Someone must get us all to come to our senses regarding guns. It seems the Wild West was tamed by taking guns away in everyday movement of people. They were not allowed in public places. We now are encouraging people to strap them on just as they had them back then. This madness must stop before the 1% becomes the 10%, not because of additional wealth, but because the 99% are killing themselves off.
