Members of the U. S. military are dying in Afghanistan for America's rights.
BP is controlling American journalists' access to oil spill sites.
America's free press is dead and gone.
We intended to write a column asking why should they die for a right that's gone with some additional verbiage explaining how the medical concept of "phantom limb" can be applied metaphorically to the idea of a free press being part of Americans' right to Fee Speech. The teabaggers response to that analogy would probably be to ask this insightful question: "What's an analogy?"
People who believe in a free press know what's happening and the others who believe every word they hear on Fox News will never figure out what's happening.
Teabaggers won't see any correlation between a newspaper risking its existence to publish the Pentagon Papers in the past and letting the Bush Family set their editorial guidelines in this decade.
