The 112th Congress - Return of the Republican Majority?
Â
The Republicans are back with a new Contract for America, promising more tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy, and revoking Obama's Health Care Program, if only the American people would vote them back into the majority in the upcoming mid-term elections on November 2.Â
The republicans in congress, even as the minority party after the 2008 elections, have been united in obstructing and scorning the democratic proposals at every turn, with usually not even a single republican vote on any and all democratic initiatives, bills, and proposals.
"Highlights of the plan include:
à ‚¬ Requiring all bills to be posted online three days before voting and requiring legislation to cite the constitutional authority for the new law;
à ‚¬ Holding the trials of detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, outside the United States.
à ‚¬ Reducing federal spending to fiscal 2008 levels, except for national security.
The 21-page document is meant in part to echo the GOP 's 1994 "Contract with America," a 10-point agenda unveiled at the same point in the election season before the party gained control of Congress in that year's midterms.
But it is also a new effort to signal that a new generation of Republicans is ready to lead."
