The Rise of Boko Haram: US Responsibility, Hypocrisy The US intervention in Libya, as well as the IMF's intervention in Nigeria's economy have helped create the conditions for the Boko Haram insurgency to thrive, leading to the kidnapping of nearly 300 school girls last April. The US continues to support the Nigerian military despite its poor human rights record. Finally, outrage is restricted to victims of US enemies; US victims are ignored.
