What is to be done? An economic policy suggestion The general ups and downs of the US capitalist system are nothing new. The economy expands and prospers and usually "irrational exuberance" takes us to higher plateaus than warranted and self-preservation instincts move us far too far down the ladder. What we need to do is to undertake policies that guarantee a desirable outcome rather than policies that depend on businesses good intentions.
