His book, "The Mythology of Self Worth," a guidebook to rational self-counseling, has recently been updated. It teaches people how to replace irrational thoughts with rational thoughts, a process which subdues the anxiety, depression, and anger created by nutty thinking. Fans of the book have included Carl Sagan (a huge plug in his last book!), Albert Ellis (he wrote the intro), and the brilliant British philosopher Antony Flew who virtually created modern analytic philosophy in a form that is understandable for average folks.
Franklin's current hobby is that of striving to apply rational analysis to politics and culture in America.

I Have A Dream I see this period as a stunning moment in American history. The fact that it seems to have sprung up chiefly among young people gives one hope it will not go away in the immediate future. I use the word "hope" advisedly. Following the horrors of the Vietnam War, the flower children and young peaceniks seemed to fade away. Yet, we can dream.

When Guilty People Escape All Punishment Football players also knew he was a child molester, and they often joked about this facet of Coach Sandusky. From the president of Penn State down to an unknown number of people, including the head coach of the football team, this fact was known. Starting with word of mouth by football players, this fact most likely spread across the entire campus.

The So Called "War Against Evil" The word evil" has no referent whatsoever. It refers to no more than empty air, or perhaps some kind of amorphous, veiled, supposedly pernicious phantasm. We never know, even murkily, what that something is. We only know it is very, very bad, and we must destroy it before it destroys us.

Some Thoughts to Ring in the New Year Where have all the flower children gone? I can remember them giving me a flower on the streets, in cafes, and in theaters. Every party I went to during those years was interrupted at least once by everybody holding hands in a circle and singing, "We Shall Overcome."
