A late November Gallop poll has 75% of Americans believing the US "has a special responsibility to be a leading nation in world affairs". What does this mean? Leading how? A "leading" nation initiating coups, wars, overthrowing legitimately elected gov'ts? Are 75% of Americans ignorant of what its gov't has done in in its name in world affairs?
(1 comments) SHARE Thursday, December 6, 2018 Some truths of what "Poppy" Bush and other POTUS have done in our name
Yes it's the holiday season w/ family get-togethers. It was also the season for the Black Friday shopalooza. Yet w/ the passing of Poppy Bush & all the platitudes tossed his way by the MSM-which of course didn't reveal he was a war criminal along w/ all other POTUS did during their tenure. It's horrific what POTUS does in our name. It shouldn't take much imagination to wonder why so many others in the world hate us.

Last weekend an incident occurred in the Kerch Strait between Ukrainian Navy ships & the Russian Navy. Russia controls the Strait between Crimea & the Russian mainland. It separates the Black Sea from the Sea of Azov. Ships passing the Strait must notify Russian maritime officials before entering the Strait. The Ukrainian ships didn't & were detained by the Russians as aggressors. The US & Nato called it Russian aggression.

The US has a multitude of problems & issues from the demise of domestic manufacturing & loss of working class, middle class income jobs to climate change & endless war. The one issue that takes precedence since it could preclude all life on Earth is a US war w/ nuclear superpowers Russia & China. The US cannot win such a war w/ Russia & China. Only the people can prevent such a war demanding US leaders come to their senses.

VP Mike Pence traveling to Singapore intimated to a reporter the US is ready to initiate a cold war w/ China, that the US is "in strong position" to escalate its trade war w/ China w/ no intention to cede its influence in Asia. Meanwhile Trump's Nat'l Security Adviser John Bolton warned the US will up its naval presence in the S. China Sea which China sees as a provocation & it's not about to rollover & submit to US bullying.

We had an election yesterday w/ Dems capturing the House & the Repubs retaining the Senate. But does it matter who is in the majority? The status quo doesn't change. The major policies & actions of official Washington remain in place. Why? the Dems & Repubs are all in on it. We're a war based economy. Hot, cold, win, lose it doesn't matter. All that's needed are enemies. Contrived ones will do. It's all to serve unending war.

Yesterday Sec'y of State Mike Pompeo said, China needs to "behave like a normal nation"...& "respect int'l law". This administration has no shame moralizing to ANY nation not behaving normally & not respecting int'l law. The supreme irony; since the end of WWII it is the US that has completely ignored int'l law, not behaving as a normal nation, instead being the bully against any nation that didn't follow US Diktat.

We've reached an Orwellian state of affairs when Trump says Russia & China need to "come to their senses", regarding their nuclear arsenals or "we will build it up", the US nuclear arsenal. He intends to w/draw from the 1987 INF treaty when thousands of nuclear weapons were destroyed by the US &USSR. By his w/drawing from the INF it's the US needing to come to its senses expanding rather than reducing its nuclear arsenal.
SHARE Tuesday, October 16, 2018 An eerie quiet that's come about
There's a sort of eerie quiet come about. Kavanaugh got confirmed but it remains to be seen what effect he'll have on the Court. A US destroyer almost collided w/ a Chinese warship in the S. China Sea. Big trouble if US provocations continue here. Trump to initiate new oil sanctions on Iran starting Nov.4. Who knows what might happen. The Dow took a 1300 point plunge last Thurs. A harbinger of things to come? Eerily quiet.

From the day Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Justice Anthony on the Supreme Court the "fix" was in. Repubs controlled the Senate & there was no way Senate Repub Majority leader Mitch McConnell was going to delay the vote on Kavanaugh's nomination despite the convincing testimony of Christine Ford before the Senate Judiciary Committee of Kavanaugh's sexual abuse while both were in high school in the 1980's.

Putin & Erdogan establishing a demilitarized zone around Idlib Province Syria was stroke of genius. W/ Turkish troops along w/ the Russians patrolling the 12.4 zone to be fully operational by Oct. 15, the days of al Qaeda militants retaining control are numbered. They'll be no Syrian army attack on Idlib thus no justification for US retaliation & no humanitarian crisis which the US MSM assumed would happen.

Yesterday Russian Pres. Putin & Turkish Pres. Erdogan agreed on a demilitarized zone of 20 kilometers-12.4 miles- separating Syrian troops from al Qaeda militants in Idlib Province, Syria. Russian & Turkish troops will enforce the zone. All military arms & ammo are to be removed. Idlib people will be allowed to enter the zone then go to other areas of Syria. At least it's a step back from the brink of an expanded war in Syria.
(1 comments) SHARE Wednesday, September 12, 2018 A catastrophe may be about to happen in Syria that could bring a wider war
A catastrophe in Syria could happen. Russia's been warning about terrorists in Idlib initiating a chemical attack then blame it on the gov't of Pres. Bashar Assad. The US, Britain, France, say they'll launch a missile strike against Syrian gov't installations if chemical weapons are used. If Iranian & Russian military are killed & Russia has satellite images of US ships launching those strikes it could retaliate. Then what?
(1 comments) SHARE Wednesday, September 5, 2018 Liberation of Syrian people in Idlib may have begun
Yesterday the Russian air strikes struck al Qaeda positions in Idlib Syria. This could be the 1st phase liberating Syrians held hostage by US backed proxy jihadists. Friday the presidents of Russia & Turkey meet w/ the Iranians in Tehran presumably over the final assault on Idlib. Washington is none too pleased w/ Trump advisor Bolton saying if chemical weapons are used we will respond strongly. This is precarious as it gets.

We know Trump. He's a self important narcissist & reactionary tweeting blowhard. His policies, sanctions, trade wars are counter-productive & hurt the American people. Much of it knee jerk reactions rather well thought out decisions. But the visceral hatred of Trump is total among liberals & Dems. Even when he's the statesman meeting N.Korea's Kim Jong-Un or meeting w/Russia's Pres. Putin he's denigrated. It's become surreal.

In Finian Cunningham's latest article,"War or Peace" he surmises "the American regime be abolished or replaced w/ something truly democratic. If not disaster could be our fate." Peace is problematic considering the tentacles of the military/industrial/political complex reach deep into every significant institution in America, where people's livelihoods are dependent on them being complicit w/that complex.

In the bizarro world of Trump renewed sanctions on Iran are "the most biting sanctions ever imposed. In Nov. they ratchet up yet another level. Anyone doing business will NOT be doing business w/ the US. I am asking for WORLD PEACE, nothing less". How does that translate into asking for world peace? It makes no sense. Iran may have a US gun pointed @ it but it won't capitulate & negotiate w/ US sanctions against them.

Beyond this war of words Europe holds the key. If they capitulate to US threats & stop buying Iran's oil a US confrontation w/ Iran is all the more likely.
