Settlers Hurl Stones at Us; Documenting Illegal Israeli Settlements Yesterday, for the first time in my life, I was with a group of Israeli human rights activists from Taayush, when we were violently attacked by three masked Israeli settlers hurling stones our group. I have read many reports and seen video footage of violent settler attacks on Palestinians and Israeli peace activists. Experiencing something personally, is so much more powerful than reading about it

5,000 Protest in Sheikh Jarah The mixed crowd -- Israeli Jews, mostly secular but some wearing kippot, Palestinian women in traditional dress, Palestinian and Israeli youth -- felt wonderful, a rare experience of the reality in this country, two peoples living together on the land with two languages, two cultures and three or more religions.

Tony Judt poses difficult questions Yesterday, Tony Judt, the British historian, published a very important op-ed in the New York Times about the settlements. Today Ha'aretz reports that the Israeli government Israel has just authorized the building of 300 new homes in the West Bank! What will it take to get Israel to stop the expansion of settlements? Is it only the threat of a cut in aid or an actual aid cut that will convince the Israeli government...?
