The recent church-state case on legislative prayer, is a step backward for those of minority religions. It harkens back to a case where I personally protested. In both cases, the privilege of choosing how sacred to take your sectarian prayer, is a taken-for-granted luxury of the majority. Unfortunately, it seems that the justices forming the majority opinion, could not empathize with religious minorities.

The tragic irony of GOP rhetoric, is that it misses the relationship between the religious and sentimental yearning they have for the 1950's & 60's ideal of the American family, and the economic policies that supported such families.
