America's New Single Payer Majority A new poll shows that more than half of Americans -- including 80 percent of Democrats and a quarter of Republicans -- support expanding health reform to "Medicare for All." While Obamacare has been a step in the right direction, more and more people across the country understand that a single-payer healthcare system is the only way to guarantee quality care and at the same time reduce medical costs.

Our Responsibility the question remains how best to respond to the severe challenge posed to our constitutional structure, and to our national honor, by the Bush administration's actions, and in particular its national security programs. Faced with a record of widespread warrantless surveillance inside the United States, brutal interrogation policies condemned by the administration's own head of the Guantanamo Bay military commissions as torture

Note to McCain: You Don't Have to Own a House (or Eight) to Vote Michigan Republicans have indicated that they plan to challenge Michigan voters at the polls using lists of homes that are in foreclosure. While we should not be surprised at any tactic after Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, this is a singular example of how low they will go. It is done in the name of electing John McCain and John McCain should answer for it. Today, I am calling on McCain to immediately denounce this...

FISA Call to Action If the Administration was serious about arguing for this immunity, they would take steps to demonstrate to Congress the extent of this surveillance program and what role the phone companies played.Because of these reservations, the House-passed FISA bill did not include the immunity the president sought. In the Senate, it is becoming clear that a tough battle will now ensue over this provision.Sen Dodd of CT needs your help.

John Conyers: Setting the Record Straight on FISA In recent weeks, there has been lot of conflicting information floating around about efforts by House Democrats to protect the country by adopting rules for intelligence gathering that are both flexible and constitutional. This week, President Bush suggested that my legislative alternative to this summer's hastily-enacted FISA reform, the "Protect America Act," would take away important tools from our intelligence community

Goodling Testimony Revealing (Except to Republicans) After Monica Goodling's testimony, the Republicans need to come up with some new talking points on the United States Attorney matter. They keep saying that "There's nothing to this investigation... Democrats are on a fishing expedition... There's no there there. That has never been true, but Goodling's testimony was a crystallizing moment. Ms. Goodling was a good witness who brought forward some critical information

Congress Is No Longer Silent Our country has been run, far too long, by an Administration that seeks to rule in secrecy. The Bush White House has ignored our founding fathers' separation of powers, claiming an ever increasing scope of authority in direct conflict with the constitution. For the past six years Congress has been silent, watching idly as its powers are usurped. No longer.

John Conyers on the Lieberman Rejection Election: The People Have Spoken I am already concerned that Senator Lieberman's independent bid seems destined to divide Democrats in the most insidious ways. Lieberman's appeals "seem designed to peel off support for Mr. Lamont by highlighting his support from prominent African Americans. This type of rhetoric degrades the political process and should not be tolerated."
