Sixteen to Nothing
by Patricia Ernest

Sixteen soldiers killed and bush still hasn't said word one about the tragedy.  Yeah, okay that's fine.  Hey what the hell, we have more soldiers  where those came from.....right?  Rumsfeld grabs the microphone and looks bummed out, expresses a few Hallmark moment words of sympathy, and then there it is, the word that will negate all his previous faux sentiment, he says, "but".   After you hear that you can just shut down because you know what's coming next.  We know we're about to hear propaganda bs.  We're going to hear about war causing deaths, deaths are a necessary part of war, and blah blah blah.
Where's the part about this shouldn't have happened, and we should have been more prepared to end this war?  Yeah, where the hell is that part Mr. Rumsfeld, Mr. bush, and all you other fine war loving men?  Where's your heart?  For a bunch of hypocrites who say they believe in the word of God, you sure as hell don't follow his instructions very well.  This isn't a parlor game, this is real war with real people being really really killed.  When you get tired of playing you can't just put all the pieces back in the box and put the box in the cupboard.  These pieces are in caskets and you can't just hide them under your pretend patriotic ego.  You guys started this thing called war and people have died.  It's your responsibility.  It's going to stay with you the rest of your lives.  You better start being remorseful and you had better start it soon.  Stop hiding facts and stop telling lies, it's not fair to those who have died for you.

I'm sure that the families of all the troops who have been murdered in Iraq are no longer waiting for those hugs bush told us he would be giving them.  Remember when he said, before the war, that he would be the one hugging the mothers of the troops who would be killed in this war?  Hugging indeed!  He won't even let the mothers see the caskets as they arrive in the US.   He won't even allow that in those caskets are honorable men and women who died for their country, because he told them to.  He says there is a filter over the news, well he has placed a filter between death and honor by not allowing the caskets returning from Iraq to be photographed.  No photos, no death, no hugs, no no no.

He can't work hugs into his busy schedule of raising money.
Sorry mom, you're going to have to cry alone at the funeral.  You see, Mr. bush has other things on his agenda today.

Sorry dad, you're going to have to handle this funeral alone.  Mr. bush is still real busy speaking to some handpicked audience, and he's not telling them that your son is dead, no no no.  Because, that would bum everyone out.  And you know that bummed out people just don't write big checks.

Sorry little kids,  we can't show you a picture on tv of daddy in a military hospital.  If people see your daddy in the hospital laying there without his legs, people will be upset and they might even realize that war is hell.  Now that wouldn't be good publicity for this war, would it?

Sorry young mother, you're on your own now to raise the kids.  I'm sure Mr. bush would want you to know that, if he could have raised that extra two million dollars before your husband's ill timed murder in Iraq, he might have had time to give you a condolence call.  But hey, what can we tell you?  It takes bribes, I mean money to run campaigns, and that's of the utmost concern to Mr. bush right now.  You do understand don't you?

Sorry men and women in the military hospitals, Mr. bush doesn't have time to come and visit with you.  He prefers not to be reminded that you suffered your injuries, because he gave false information in order to send you to Iraq.  He just likes the part about new schools for Iraqi children, that's his favorite part, it makes him feel all squishy and warm  inside.  Looking at you is too bummy for him.  Sorry!

Sixteen deaths in one day  One death a day for sixteen days.  Are we going to wait for them all to die?  How concerned is the whitehouse about any of these deaths?  Do they really feel anything even close to remorse?  What do they say?  What do they do?  They say nothing and they do nothing.  Sunday  the score from this whitehouse was sixteen deaths to zero remorse.  The score was sixteen to nothing, but no one won and a whole lot was lost.
