Karl Rove has shown his contempt for Congress by ignoring a subpoena to appear before this august body. Thus far, other than to bluster, Congress has done zilch. Herr Rove is by no means the first employee of the Executive Branch to refuse to appear when called. Even little old ladies thumb their nose at Congress. The Vice President openly defies and mocks them. The President will not appear under oath. So, why do we need Congress? It was initially set up as a watchdog to prevent the Executive Branch from ignoring the checks and balances thoughtfully provided by our forefathers. They seem to have failed at that. They were also to serve the electorate by keeping government honest and ethical. God knows they have failed at that. Maybe we don't need them. We could outsource their positions to India on a part-time basis and save tons of dollars. No health care benefits, no outrageous retirement incomes, no big expense accounts, and probably less theft would be the benefit to the electorate. An alternative is to not vote for a single incumbent. Disrupt the existing power bases and prevent future ones from forming. Remember, we can do no worse than what we now have in office. A new dummy is probably better than an old thief. While you think about this put a visual image in your mind of little old ladies thumbing their nose at we, the people. Think about Herr Rove and treacherous Dick Cheney giving to us the familiar one-finger salute. If that doesn't irk you, you are getting that which you deserve!!

Grand Idea
I have been promoting the "do not re-elect and incumbent" for some time now and feel that is what is necessary. First it would have the lobbyists wasting their money because those they paid will not be in office to be at their beck and call, and two it will not continue to reward incompetence. I also like the outsourcing idea, except that would cost money as well. Why not simply do away with them. Their role has been reduced to where they do not provide the checks and balances and it appears the Executive Branch calls all of the shots in terms of what Bills to pass anyway. So imagine the $billions that could be saved. Unfortunately, until we get a presidential candidate who at least addresses this breakdown in governmental process we cannot expect it will change. by Dennis Kaiser (20 articles, 0 quicklinks, 35 diaries, 730 comments [137 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Jul 20, 2008 at 6:49:38 AM

salute?
One musn't put the whole blame on Congress in the generic sense. It really is a problem created by the Republicans. They had been in control for a very long period of time during which all of the checks and balances built into the system started to fail. Today the senate is the most responsible for what's happening. There simply are not enough Democratic senators to carry the day in the senate and as a result the system is being destroyed by Republicans who are traitors to their own country, who hold their party in higher regard then they hold their duty to the country and the democratic process. Unfortunate but true. by Archie (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 1757 comments [112 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Jul 20, 2008 at 10:53:07 AM
