Time For Colin Powell to Resign... for His Country, for Humanity
By Gene Latimer

Whatever any of us may think about Colin Powell’s actions so far, the reality is that he has a unique opportunity (and motive) to do something in the next 20+ days that could benefit all of humanity for generations to come. He has the chance for redemption.

I am inviting you to participate in a grassroots-forward-it-to-your-own-list campaign of asking him to take a heroic stand before the election and resign.

EMAIL: Cheryl A. Gross at the State Department is set up to handle a large volume of personal messages for him. Send your email to GrossCA@state.gov

Make up your own message, use the one below, or rework it to reflect your voice.

Here is what I’ve sent to him:

Subject line: A Historic, Heroic Act

Dear Secretary Powell,

The present moment offers you the opportunity to take a historic, heroic action.

First of all, I salute you for protecting the State Department from the administration ideologues as well as you could during this time. I believe that future generations will surely honor your legacy with profound gratitude if you clearly separate yourself from these forces and take a public stand now. Please let the citizens of this country and the people of the world know that you can no longer support the misguided foreign policy of this administration.

In the name of all who have been (and will be) harmed by the tragic, unnecessary invasion of Iraq, I ask you to please resign shortly before the November 2nd election as a statement against this administration’s myopic, ideological foreign policy.

Please articulate what a successful, sustainable foreign policy looks like, what its principles are — what we as a country must once again embrace in order to thrive in an international community.

For the sake of America , I ask this.

Blessings,
Gene Latimer
