The Sinclair Sponsor Boycott is Working, Now Take it to Your Local Right Wing Talk Station and their Syndicated Shows

by Rob Kall,

 OpEdNews.com

We’re beginning to see how the boycott of Sinclair Broadcasting (SBGI) advertisers is adversely affecting its stock and its ad sales. See this list of Sinclair advertisers that have already said they would pull their advertising.

Why not take the same approach to the the most toxic local right wing forums—local right wing talk radio stations and the nationally syndicated shows they run. .

For example, the most offensive right wing forum where I live, in Philadelphi’s Delaware Valley is  AM 1210’s Big Talker Radio, which has a lineup of :

6-9 AM Michael Smerconish (local lawyer, smarter, more straight talking than the others, even likable. He lulls the brainwashed hordes who listen all day into a more tractable, pliable mental state, so they are less discerning, more willing to swallow the BS that spews from the station all day long.)

9-12 Glen Beck (whiney nasal creep who ran the war rallies before the start-up of the Iraq war. He constantly uses stories about his family and children. I bet he's ben self-righteous about Kerry's mention of Mary Cheney.)

12-3 Rush Limbaugh lying drug abuser generally given credit for creating the right wing toxic talk radio movement

3-6 pm Sean Hannity  one of the biggest liars, distorters and propagandists the right wing has working for them.  (try to sue me Sean. You can sue for telling the truth)

6-0 Dom  Giordano a local dittohead who mingles sports talk with working the daily RNC talking points.

Frankly, this approach should be taken to every station supporting right wing talk radio in America . If the advertisers dry up, then they will no longer be profitable. That won’t stop them The right wing funded Limbaugh for a long time before his show became financially viable.

But putting the companies that advertise on these toxic-to-democracy programs  on notice should get some of them to stop supporting, the programs. For example, Geico advertises regularly on right wing talk radio, probably spending millions supporting Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck, and the local dittoheads.

Let local advertisers know they can no longer get away with supporting right wing extremist propaganda. Or tell them that you don't want to see them supporting such extreme partisan media. Or, tell them they should show you evidence that they are spending an equal budget supporting left wing media.

It wouldn’t be hard to put together a team of people to track advertisers and investors in the local stations and then get the word out.

I am willing to post information that others put together on OpEdNews.com. But ultimately, we need a national non-profit organization with its own website. We need a national partisan organization that helps set up local grassroots organizations so democrats, liberals, greens, libertarians, etc. can work together to influence the media. This will take funding to make it successful. We need 100 George Soroses each contributing $10-25 million dollars a year not just for this project, but for a a network of progressive policy advocacy organizations. The right wing has at least t25 of these, probably enjoying a total of a quarter billion dollars a year in funding, if not more.

The Democrats and the left will never succeed in taking back America unless they wake up to the reality that they must team together in these advocacy organizations—for boycotting the media, for influencing different demographic groups, for influencing judges, lawyers, religious groups, etc.  The left currently has one sufficiently funded policy promotion organization—the Center for American Progress, founded by John Podesta. It’s doing a great job. But we need more. Meanwhile, start by letting the advertisers for your local right wing toxic lie radio station know that you are going to stop doing business with them. It’s working with Sinclair. It can work locally.
