Ten
Nobel Prize Winning Economists Slam Bush’s Policies, Endorse Kerry
by Lonna Gooden VanHorn
OpEdNews.com
On August 25,
2004, MSNBC reported that in a letter released the previous day, ten Nobel
Prize winning economists had endorsed John Kerry for president saying that
Bush’s “fiscal irresponsibility threatens the long-term economic
security and prosperity of our nation.”
They said Bush had “embarked on a reckless and extreme course
that endangers the long-term economic health of our nation.”

The ten
economists who signed the letter of support for Kerry are: George Akerlof and Daniel McFadden
of the University of California at Berkeley, Kenneth Arrow and William
Sharpe of Stanford University, Daniel Kahneman of Princeton University,
Lawrence Klein of the University of Pennsylvania, Douglass North of
Washington University, Paul Samuelson and Robert Solow of MIT and Joseph
Stiglitz of Columbia University.
In an earlier
interview while in
Berlin
, Akerlof called the Bush administration the worst in American history.

"I think this is the worst government the
US
has ever had in its more than 200 years of history. It has
engaged in extraordinarily irresponsible policies not only in
foreign policy and economics but also in social and environmental
policy…"

"This is not
normal government policy... I think it's time to protest - as much as
possible." http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0729-06.htm
The government is
taking in less money than it did in the 50’s yet Bush intends to make
his tax cuts for the rich permanent and to “privatize” Social
Security. Good luck to the wounded veterans coming home from
Iraq
. Bush already tried to cut their pay and benefits in
2003, although Congress thwarted that attempt, but if he is
elected, he will try again. With slashed revenue something has
to give, and as long as Cheney is vice-president, it will not be money for
Halliburton.
27 diplomats and
military leaders who served under Reagan and Bush, Sr. came out against
Bush, a move that is unprecedented. 10 Generals came out against Bush.
Bill Barnes now
says he is “ashamed” that he pulled strings to get W. into the TANG
unit he went AWOL from, exposing yet another lie by Mr. Bush who said he
received no “preferential” treatment.
Did the
“liberal” media focus on any of this.
No. The media spent 3 weeks showcasing proven partisan liars.
As Karl Rove intended they should.
Americans have
come to accept gossip as news. It
took a Canadian journalist to say ‘with so many important issues to
discuss, why is the American media focusing on speculation as to what
happened on a Vietnamese river 35 years ago?
But, if they are going to focus on anyone’s military service,
shouldn’t they be examining the service of their commander-in-chief who
not only did not go to
Vietnam
but went AWOL?’ http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0831-13.htm
Veterans have
said, and rightly, that it is unfair to judge others' combat experiences.
But, since the media did not adhere to that rule for Kerry, who, according
to nearly everyone who served with him was an exemplary officer, it
would have been only fair if they had mentioned, in passing, that
another presidential candidate, a flyer, had been second guessed by other
flyers when he managed to bail out of his plane, but his two crew
members were left to die. The name of that flyer was George H.W.
Bush, but that story was not given three weeks (or any weeks) of airtime
by the media. The story can be read at:
