He holds a Bachelor of Science with honours (major in Biology) from Acadia University, a Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Concordia University and a Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners from Trinity College of London. He was editor or co-editor of the Acadia University student newspaper, Athenaeum, for two years and chair or co-chair of the Acadia Environmental Society student group for three years.
