I grew up on a mill village in S.C. in a very racist community. I attended nursing school, became an R.N. and got out of S.C. as fast as I could by joining the USAF Nurse Corps. I married a medic and we did our stint and got out of the military. I remember how happy we were when he was training for Vietnam because of the increased pay!! How stupid and naive we were. Not until we left the military did we see how insane the war was. My husband finished college while we were raising our 5 children, who are very successful people today. I stayed home, working only part-time, until our youngest was 10 yrs. old. As a progressive liberal, I know that young children need their mother, and when they get older there is plenty of time left for a career.
