Spinning Global Warming - A New Meltdown?
Compare the NY Times headline today (Bush Proposes Goal to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions) with the way the British press sees Bush's proposals (Bush kills off hopes for G8 climate plan; US recognises global warming danger but wants to lead response outside UN. As the US media characterizes Bush as changing his tune on climate change, outside of the US is a different story.

Bush Continues to Back Musharraf Amidst Taliban Resurgence
It appears that Bush has a lot in common with Pakistani President/ Dictator Musharraf: both are unpopular at home, neither are looking for Osama any more, and both have tried to attack the independence of the judiciary.

Student Bomb Plotter Gives New Meaning to "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death"

But had Uhl been caught with assault weapons, it would have been perfectly legal. Guess it's a good thing he's too dumb to have figured it out.

Rudy in the Bush Bubble
Like Bush, Guiliani is good at reinventing reality while the press mostly ignores his record. The reality clashes with the Rudy who is running on an image as a strong leader who made good decisions in a crisis.

Iraq Is a Permanent Settlement in the Middle East
We are not in Iraq until the fighting is over, even though that in itself is not happening any time soon. Look between the lines to detect the real long-term Pentagon policy. Will a Democratic Administration change this?

Lieberman Rattles the Saber Again: I'd Rather Switch Than Fight
(3 comments)
Senator Joe Lieberman has tempered his promise not to switch parties for now but doesn't rule out turning if the Democrats continue their fight to end the Iraq War. Lieberman seems to like his ability to leverage power.

In an exclusive report from the UK, a senior Iraqi official claims that in 2004 the US Army tried to kill or capture Muqtada al-Sadr, the widely revered Shia cleric, after luring him to peace negotiations at a house in the holy city of Najaf, which it then attacked.

Immigration Cuban Style
While Congress argues about how to limit immigration, Cubans continue to enter the US with no limits and little accountability.

The Wolfowitz Reign of Error
As Wolfowitz prepares for departure, to smiles in the overseas press, the trail of damage he leaves at the Bank, except for the dead bodies left, is no less devastating than that in Iraq.

MIA: Osama bin Laden and US Cash
(1 comments)
Unaccounted for cash was long gone from Iraq, and at least some of it seems to be funding al Qaeda. Pakistani President Musharraf has provided refuge for the real terrorists, but Bush praises him. Heck of a job Mushie.

How Blair Got His Nickname as Bush's Poodle
On every important international issue, Blair apparently tried to reason with his US colleague to no avail. Americans continued to think Tony agreed with Bush; the Brits did too. That's why he's no longer Prime Minister.

John Dean: The Dissembling of Gonzales
(2 comments)
Gonzales continues to ignore Congress and his Republican backers still act as if it's 2002-party time with no supervision. What are the legal options and how did we get to this point?

Follow the Moon(ies) for a Free Pass on the Press
Speaking at a gala event for the Washington Times, Bush 41 explained how much kinder the press has become since his term in office. Part of his 'kindler and gentler' nation? Not. Part of the Moonies purchase of the honored object of the gala and one of the reasons Jr. has gotten a free pass from the press. Bush makes no bones about his connections to Moon and his minnions.

Ethically Challenged But Lucrative
Here's one reason that Congress and insiders in the executive branch get rich drinking from the public trough. Given the low priority of ethics, will this even make it to the House floor?

The High Stakes Plame Game - Another Stonewall?
Valerie Plame will get her day in civil court soon but don't expect this to go anywhere. The judge who will hear the case is a Bush appointee who was a deputy to Kenneth Starr. He is also a current member of the FISA court - perhaps he should recuse himself.

David Addington--Cheney's Brain
The Bush inner circle work together to ensure that at the end of the day, the unitary executive theory prevails. Addington's role is not usually front and center, but he's as powerful and perhaps more dangerous than rest of the bunch.

Roadblocks on the Road to Rove
It looks like another immunity deal is in the works - this time for Karl Rove's former executive assistant Susan Ralston who resigned last October. Ralston was also executive assistant to Jack Abramoff. See #3-5 under Bush Administration in the link. Of course columnist Robert Novak sees this as mere self-protection, a case of Dems determinied to nail Rove. Is this a planned leak? Pre-emptive?

Blair Pushes Bush to Adopt Climate Change Policy Ahead of G8
Tony Blair doesn't want to go out with a whimper. Blair is to meet with President Bush in DC tomorrow, his last official visit to the White House. His plan is to persuade Bush to sign on to a plan to fight climate change by including pollution offenders in the folds of an international partnership. The G8 summit is scheduled for next month and Blair won't be there to keep Bush on script. Will the poodle turn into a watchdog?
