This article describes the CIA torture paradigm of Debility, Dependency and Dread, as originally researched by psychologists 50 years ago. It then explains how that model of torture interfaces with the current news about "enhanced interrogation techniques" of the CIA. The article helps the reader understand why Bush may want to push abusive techniques, as part of maintaining the DDD practices established long ago.
