Inoculating the World with Disillusionment
H. L. Mencken once observed: "The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth."

An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton from a Wellesley Alumna
(1 comments)
This letter was written by a woman who has clearly done her homework, and confirms that no sane human being in good conscience can cast a vote for Hillary Clinton.

Project Censored: See This Interview With Peter Phillips
Veteran broadcaster Walter Cronkite said Project Censored "is one of the organization's we should listen to, to be assured that our newspapers and broadcasting outlets are practicing thorough and ethical journalism."
In this interview Phillips says, "the restructuring of media in the United States is creating forms of censorship that are as potentially damaging as overt censorship."

How Bush Became A Government Unto Himself
(2 comments)
Bush has issued 1100 signing statements -- almost twice as many as all previous presidents put together -- often completely reversing the intended effect of legislation. For example, when Congress voted overwhelmingly to ban torture, Bush announced that this would "make it clear to the world that this government does not torture." Two weeks later, he added a signing statement to the bill that allowed him to ignore it.

Wikileaks Busts Gitmo Covert Propaganda Team
(1 comments)
WASHINGTON--The US detention facility at Guantanamo Bay has been caught conducting covert propaganda attacks on the internet. The attacks, exposed this week in a report by the government transparency group Wikileaks, include deleting detainee ID numbers from Wikipedia last month, the systematic posting of unattributed "self praise" comments on news organization web sites in response to negative press, among others.

FBI Posting for Bin Laden Makes No Mention of 911!
It must be a surprise for the average US citizen to discover that the FBI is NOT seeking Osama Bin Laden in connection with 911. Their "Ten Most Wanted" site only refers to crimes committed outside the US. By the way, has the government ever provided proof that Osama was behind 911...a Condi Rice promised at the time?

What is the Overall Impact of the Valerie Plame Outing?
Was the outing of Plame in a well orchestrated campaign culminating in the infamous Robert Novak column a deliberate effort to circumvent activities of the Brewster-Jennings group because it did not want information it uncovered brought into the decision making process?
Did the neoconservatives wish to be left free to make up and apply their own "facts" and appropriate spin to what was happening in Iran?

Message to Impeachment Critics: It is Necessary Now!
Those of you in Congress raising a pragmatic political argument against impeachment should recognize that this is irrelevant. Under the U.S. Constitution you have an obligation under the oath you took when you assumed office that mandates that you to preserve and defend that precious document.

Biden: Impeachment if Bush bombs Iran
(5 comments)
"The President has no authority to unilaterally attack Iran and if he does, as foreign relations committee chairman, I will move to impeach," said Biden, which was followed by a raucous applause. Biden said he is in the process of meeting with constitutional law experts to prepare a legal memorandum saying as much, and intends to send it to the President.

The Bush Rules of Evidence
In the history of the American Republic, perhaps no political family has been more protected from scandal than the Bushes. When the Bushes are involved in dirty deals or even criminal activity, standards of evidence change. Instead of proof "beyond a reasonable doubt" that would lock up an average citizen, the evidence must be perfect.

Actions of Bush, Cheney Make Case for Impeachment
Today, the offices of president and vice president of the United States are held by men who arguably have committed more crimes under international and domestic law than any others who have ever occupied those offices. Both men lied to Congress and the American people to launch an illegal war of aggression in violation of the United Nations Charter and Article VI, paragraph 2 of the Constitution.

"In a Time of War": On the Absurdities of Non-Impeachment
The current messianic-militarist White House's invasion of Iraq is not merely a foreign policy "mistake" - a "strategic blunder," as it commonly described by our great liberal saviors in the corporate-imperial Demcoratic Party. It is an ongoing act of high state arch-criminality that has killed more than a million Iraqis as well as nearly 4000 U.S. GIs.

Yet Another New Pearl Harbor: Will the Administration Sacrifice the Fifth Fleet?
The Bush administation has covered up and ignored a dissenting Pentagon war games analysis that suggests an attack on Iran's nuclear or military facilities will lead directly to the annihilation of the Navy's Fifth Fleet now stationed in the Persian Gulf.

Giuliani is One Dangerous man: it's George Bush with brains
(2 comments)
The man lies with staggering impunity. But here's the thing: he does it with such conviction and such seeming authority that people who are not inclined to study the matter will believe him - will in fact be utterly convinced that Giuliani is speaking the gospel truth, and they will prove almost impossible to shake from this conviction.

The End of America: A Letter of Warning To A Young Patriot

Bush Temper Tantrum
Our spoiled, adolescent President threw a temper tantrum yesterday, because, he claimed, Congress is not giving him everything he wants. He charged that anyone who disagrees with his policies is the same as those who sought to appease Hitler and coddle Stalin. But not one of his extremist statements is true.

Poll: Vermont Wants Bush, Cheney Impeached
Early in 2007 town meetings across Vermont asked citizens if impeachment proceedings should be initiated against the president and vice president. Thirty-seven towns voted yes, and the Senate approved a resolution calling for impeachment.
Now a statewide poll conducted by CBS affiliate WCAX in Burlington, Vt. posed the question to 400 likely voters. Sixty-one percent said they would be in favor of impeachment.

THE EMPIRE HAS NO CLOTHES
(3 comments)
Most Americans don't think of their government as an empire, but in fact the United States has been steadily expanding its control of overseas territories since the turn of the twentieth century. Now, through political intimidation and over 700 military bases worldwide, the U.S. holds sway over an area that dwarfs the great empires of world history.

Freedom Rider: Ahmadinejad Sane, Bush Crazy
U.S. media and politicians behave as if they are already at war with Iran, a nation that has been brutalized over generations by Americans, but whose president spoke of world peace and an end to "dark plots" during his visit to this country. Deafened and blinded by arrogant, ignorant, unthinking hatred, Americans responded with venom in quantities toxic to all rational thought.

A Republic, If We Can Keep It
The Presidential election of 2008 portends a disaster for the GOP, the Bush Administration, and their corporate sponsors a disaster of unprecedented proportions. The losers will not, as in previous elections, simply find opulent sinecures in "the private sector," and comfortable retirement and status as "elder statesmen." Instead they will be facing the loss of their ill-gained fortunes and even of their freedom, as they a

Will Anyone Stop Bush and Cheney's Planned War With Iran?
I think Glenn Greenwald is right that the Bush/Cheney regime is about to start an aggressive war against Iran. And I agree that the Democrats have foolishly paved the way for this to happen.
We can't say we weren't warned. They've been telling us for years they want regime change in Iran. They've told us that Iran poses a nuclear threat in the Middle East.

Ex-Reagan Aide Calls Bush a "Mass Murderer"
Between the massive death toll in Iraq--655,000 as of last fall--to those anguished masses who would become bloated bodies in New Orleans, Bush has shown a boundless capacity for cruel and unusual punishment for those whose lives are expendable in the racist La La land that his administration calls home.

The Necessary Embrace of Conspiracy
(2 comments)
America is steeped in conspiracy, and even more steeped in propaganda that discredits those who try to expose the conspiracies. Whether we're talking about MLK, Jr., JFK, RFK, Iran-Contra, 9/11, or, importantly, the status quo, anyone who works to uncover the truth is branded a "conspiracy nut" and discredited before any evidence has a fair hearing. The government/corporate/media version is THE VERSION.

More Shame, More Sorrow
In the administration of George W. Bush, the Republican Party has achieved the greatest combination of idiocy and evil in human history.
The Republicans have bogged America down in a gratuitous and illegal war. The war has destroyed Iraq, killed between 650,000 and 1,000,000 Iraqi civilians, displaced 4,000,000 Iraqis, and littered the country with depleted uranium.

More War on the Horizon
On August 22 Bush told the Veterans of Foreign Wars that US troops are the "greatest force for human liberation the world has ever known." Tell that to the 650,000 dead Iraqis and the 4 million displaced Iraqis, and the tens of thousands of slaughtered Afghans, and the coming civilian deaths in Iran.

Resisting the Drums of War
(2 comments)
"Resisting the Drums of War" describes how the misguided and destructive war in Iraq was promoted by targeting our concerns about vulnerability, injustice, distrust, superiority, and helplessness. The continued occupation of Iraq--or an attack on Iran--will likely be sold to us in much the same way. This video examines these warmongering appeals and how to counter them.

American Nightmare: Gonzales "Wrong and Illegal and Unethical"
Attorney General Gonzales, Iglesias told me, wanted him to bring what the prosecutor called "bogus voter fraud" cases. In effect, US Attorney Iglesias was under pressure from the boss to charge citizens with crimes they didn't commit. Saddam did that. Stalin did that. But Iglesias would NOT do that - even at the behest of the Attorney General. Today, Captain Iglesias told me, "I'm not going to file any bogus prosecutions."

The Waning Power of the War Myth
(1 comments)
Bush's entire presidency has been propped up by the War Myth. By presenting himself as a war leader, by wrapping himself in the sacred robes of patriotism, the military and national honor, Bush has taken refuge in the holy of holies, the ultimate sanctuary in American life. He has made criticism of his policies tantamount to criticism of the one institution in American life that is untouchable: the military.

Bush Gets Away with Lies, Lies and More Lies in History-Illiterate America
George Bush and other Iraq War supporters have argued that if we withdraw from Iraq the result will be like the killing fields of Cambodia -- an odd comparison considering that the US has direct responsibility for that holocaust.
