A Million 'Individual' March-New York's Gay Pride Parade
Paterson himself marched along openly lesbian New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. The historic appearance, which is a first by a sitting governor, offered spectators a symbolic confirmation of how far the movement towards equality for LGBT New Yorkers has come since the first march took place after the 1969 Stonewall Bar riots.

Leading the local opposition to the court decision are a pair of Southern California businessmen, Howard Ahmanson, owner of Fieldstead & Co and Christian radio magnate Ed Atsinger. Up until the 1970s, waiters and waitresses could expect to earn an average 10 percent gratuity on restaurant checks. At some point, during the period from 1970 to 1980, servers across the country got a raise to the current 15 percent.
But even among individual American patrons, tipping habits can vary wildly.

Public Restrooms become Gender Identity Battleground

In spite of any laws on the books, the transgender individual, the feminine man, the butch lesbian or anyone who expresses gender identity and subsequent appearance that runs counter to what society sees as normal can find the most common act of a human being--using a facility to relieve oneself--a humiliating experience. And public restrooms can present the most difficult challenges that can lead to perilous situations.
