The costs of a total energy replacement and conservation plan would be huge, the speed unlikely. But governments of rich nations have already undertaken such a scheme for another purpose (costing more, adjusted for inflation, than total spending on World War II). Do we want to be remembered as the generation that saved the banks and let the biosphere collapse? Can we afford not to try? No, we can't.

Finding the Best, Local Food Near You Just Got Easier
The Eat Well Guide is the best new online tool for foodies, farmers and all who care about sustainable eating. It was originally developed by the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy and later partnered with Sustainable Table and launched in 2003 along with The Meatrix. The site provides maps, and you can save listings into an online notebook and share it. And you're supporting the local/green food movement.
