Ethanol: Energy Panacea or False Promise?
Ethanol, more commonly known as drinking alcohol, is touted by some as a viable alternative fuel for vehicles. New studies show ethanol guzzles more energy during its manufacture than it provides, and it strains valuable clean water resources. Recent findings also suggest fuels high in ethanol may pose an equal or greater risk to public health than regular gasoline.

Fearmongering Republican Strategy No Longer Works
(3 comments)
Republicans again are trying to make the case that Democrats would endanger the country if they assumed control of the House and Senate after a dozen years of the GOP in power. Republicans set out to use a similar game plan this election year.
However, political analysts say the public's overall dissatisfaction with the Republican-controlled Congress and the Bush administration is diluting the once-potent argument.

Afghans back in the arms of Taliban due to U.S. mis-steps
(3 comments)
Sheer desperation is driving many Afghans back into the arms of the Taliban due to U.S. mis-steps. The Taliban have again taken control of entire regions and are seeking to ensnare the Western allies in a bloody guerilla war. American taxpayers would be stunned to hear how their tax dollars are wasted - beyond being wasted on failed projects, tax dollars help pay for "contractors' prostitutes and imported cheeses....

Interview with US Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ronald Neumann, 61, about the growing Taliban presence, the need for more international support, and how dangerous it would be to give up, "We Are Not Going to Evacuate. We Are Not Going Anywhere." Question - Mr. Ambassador, since January you have managed to escape two separate attacks uninjured. Did those personal experiences change your perception of the security situation?

Security in Iraq has collapsed so dramatically that Saudi Arabia has ordered the construction of a 550-mile high-tech fence to seal off its troubled northern neighbour.
The huge project to build the barrier, which will be equipped with ultraviolet night-vision cameras, buried sensor cables and thousands of miles of barbed wire, will snake across the vast and remote desert frontier between the countries.

The book claims that in the July 2001, Tenet told Richard Clarke, "It's my sixth sense, but I feel it coming. This is going to be the big one." Rice brushed off warning.

Major Problems At Polls Feared, Voting Law Changes And New Technology Will Cause Trouble
(3 comments)
In the Nov. 7 election, more than 80 percent of voters will use electronic voting machines, and a third of all precincts this year are using the technology for the first time.
This change in how states and localities record votes and administer elections since the Florida recount battle six years ago has created conditions that could trigger a repeat -- this time on a national scale.

Says Air Force Secretary, microwave devices should be tested on American citizens in crowd-control situations before they are used on the battlefield. Why 9/11 happened: Bush curtailed Operation CATCHERS MITT
(3 comments)
The Bush Administration cancelled or cut back Operation CATCHERS MITT, the highly classified ongoing CIA and FBI operation that tracked al-Qaeda operatives known to be inside the U.S. during the summer of 2001. This was done without notifying the existing counter-terrorism policy board in Washington, then headed by Richard Clarke, a Clinton holdover.
This was a fatal decision by Bush's national security staff...

Bush Voters Now Have Buyer's Remorse and Say Bush Is Politicizing Terrorism
(3 comments)
"I do have a bit of mistrust," said Mr. McBride, who twice voted for Mr. Bush, but is now disappointed - a sentiment he said is shared by many in his Bible study group. "The whole thing about W.M.D. and that Iraq is somehow tied to 9/11, I just don't believe it." Republicans, Democrats and independents now all express degrees of skepticism about Bush's motives for his high-profile speeches 2 months before Election day.

Senate Democratic Leadership Pressure Disney Over The Path to 9/11
(3 comments)
The Senate Democratic Leadership to Disney President Robert Iger - We write with serious concerns about the planned upcoming broadcast of The Path to 9/11 mini-series on September 10 and 11. Countless reports from experts on 9/11 who have viewed the program indicate numerous and serious inaccuracies that will undoubtedly serve to misinform the American people about the tragic events surrounding the terrible attacks of that day

Now, as discussion grows over the false character of The Path to 9/11, the right-wing network that brought it to fruition is ratcheting up its PR efforts.

U.S Has Failed Strategy Say Top Army and Marine Corps Generals, Active-duty and Retired
(3 comments)
President Bush's policy of "staying the course" in Iraq isn't likely to produce anything but more frustration, more and greater problems for the United States in a dangerous world, and more and bloodier surprises for the 135,000 American troops in Iraq.
"Lack of security and lack of governance have pushed Iraq into the rise of a civil war," said one retired senior general. "The message is clear: We have a failed strategy.."

Taliban Resurgence - U.S. Losing Afghanistan
(3 comments)
Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld initially opposed a request by Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, and Afghanistan's new leaders, for a sizable peacekeeping force. The Bush Administration deployed only 8,000 American troops, in a purely in a combat role, as Bush shifted U.S. forces and the world's attention to Iraq. Now the U.S. is at real risk of losing Afghanistan to the people who really did attack the U.S. on 9/11.

Bush's War On Terror Unintended Blowback
(3 comments)
Far from ending terrorism, George Bush's tactics of using overwhelming military might to fight extremism appear to have rebounded, spawning an epidemic of global terrorism that has claimed an estimated 72,265 lives since 2001, most of them Iraqi civilians.
The rest, some 30,626, according to official US figures, have been killed in a combination of terror attacks and counter-insurgency actions by the US and its allies.

Another Black Day In The "War On Terror"
Across the Middle East, wave upon wave of violence engulfed the region five years on from 11 September.
The reason for the rise of radical Islam is foreign occupation. Iraq had a secular tradition. Fanatical Islamic groups made little headway under Saddam Hussein not only because he persecuted them but because they had little popular support.

Six Letters On The Relentless Tragedy Called Iraq
(3 comments)
I'm a decent person - and a decent mother whose 19-year-old United States Marine son is being deployed to Iraq next month to face a deadly, targeted anti-American insurgency that has nothing to do with the "war on terror."
Why should my son, or any other mother's son, be sacrificed in a mounting civil war because it's not politically advantageous for the Bush administration to admit that its Iraq policy has failed?

Democrats In America Have Utterly Failed To Counter Republicans Control Of The Language
(3 comments)
Republican control of language has been utterly successful in demonising their political opposition. It flows out of Republican think tanks and press offices, down through a network of talk show hosts and columnists and out into the general public. They spouted the exact same phrases, often the exact same words.
Democrats in America have utterly failed to counter this.

Republicans Casting Themselves As The Victims Of Lily-Livered Democrats

The disastrous turn of events in Iraq - and the wider state of the world - has little to do with Republican mis-steps since 2000. No, it is in fact the fault of the Democrats and their lily-livered ways.
