The Walls of Berlin and Bil'in
A wall twice as high and five times as long as the one that fell in Berlin on Nov. 9, 1989, is close to completion in the West Bank.
One of the chants I learned during one of my four visits to the agricultural village of Bilin, was "The wall will fall in Bilin; the wall will fall like in Berlin".

When Leaders Fail; People Must Lead
President Obama has reaffirmed a 4-decade-old "secret" understanding that has allowed Israel to keep a nuclear arsenal without opening it to international inspections..."what we really want at a minimum may be just to keep Israeli possession from becoming an established international fact."-Kissinger, 1969.
It became an established international fact in 1986 via Vanunu's testimony and photos of the Dimona.

Obama, Ahmadinejad, Gaddafi, Empty Chairs and Two Thomas's
I only caught the last few minutes on CNN of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at the UN on September 23, 2009.
What I witnessed on CNN in those last few minutes was the scroll that Canada and "US delegates walked out over hateful, offensive and anti-Semitic rhetoric."
What I heard in those last few minutes was his references to the prophets, about spirituality, justice, human rights, love, global reform...

Message to President Obama and Americans with a Conscience
"Every single Palestinian home in Jerusalem has a demolition order. The entire West Bank has been zoned as agricultural land by Israel, and that will also be re-zoned again for more settlements."-Jeff Halper, Founder ICAHD

Teddy, Bobby, Jimi, saints and sinners
I was just a kid in 1969, when Teddy drove into Chappaquiddick, but I remember images of him and how grief stricken he looked...
I felt as bad for him as I did for Mary Jo Kopechne and her family and friends, for being a kid, I knew how easy it was to do something stupid and selfish...
I also recalled a song Jimi Hendrix did at Woodstock that very same year...

Why it is Apartheid in Israel Palestine
(2 comments)
"The most accurate way to describe Israel today is as an apartheid state," Neve Gordon, an American-born Jew who has lived in Israel for nearly 30 years and teaches political science at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba, recently wrote in a Los Angeles Times op-ed.
"An apartheid society is much more than just a ‘settler colony'. It involves specific forms of oppression...

What the "Stupid" Media Got Right
While the media was making a big deal over President Obama's "stupid" remark regarding the Cambridge Police, I wondered how many of them had ever passed judgment on a story they only knew one side of, or a person by their ethnicity or dress, or even a book by its cover.
However, this weekend, the media also got something very right- that music unites humankind.
