I've been involved in left politics and activism since 1956, in New York City, the S.F. Bay Area, and elsewhere. Although I don't fit political labels well, I'm often called an anarchist (by "Marxists") and a Trotskyist (by "anarchists"). I'm also called a lot worse by some people.

I have pretty much given up on joining organizations, for reasons having more to do with my personality than any theory or principle.

I like to express ideas through forums like this, and email discussion lists, since the time available for thinking before writing, and the fact of a permanent record, make for more intelligent discussion -- at least by people who don't use disposable pseudonyms.
