After 60 years I still retain enough naiveté to believe world peace is possible but being a realist have to face the fact that I won't be around to see it. In my youth some well meaning folks tried to teach me to respect my elders but my observations led me to believe that any fool can become an "elder" while respect must be earned.
In my teens I spent a lot of time traversing precipices, challenging the insane world I could make little sense of to do me in if it dared. Eventually I came to realize that the world wasn't nearly as concerned with me as I was and that the only challenge that ever really matters is that we don't give up on the "good" fight whether we win or not. That and that the people we manage to find the courage to "let in" is what gives life meaning. I have known a lot of people in my life, lived in numerous states, visited most, attended 23 schools, been married and divorced 5 times, had too many jobs, cars, & other meaningless possessions to keep track of, fathered 3 children and made more mistakes than you can shake a stick at. Someone once noted that God doesn't judge us by our degrees or diplomas but by our scars. Most of mine were probably self-inflicted but maybe God will overlook that instead of me.
