A few declarations.
-While I'm registered as a Democrat, I consider myself to be a dynamic critic of the Democratic party, just as, well, not quite as much, but almost as much as I am a critic of republicans.
-My articles express my personal opinion, not the opinion of this website.
(18 comments) Reports are coming in that the FBI and Homeland Security have played a role in coordinating and planning eviction strategies in major OWS cities across the USA.
(70 comments) Should the embryonic Occupy Movement be subjected to meta-analysis, to discussion of the weaknesses, the failures, the vulnerabilities, the flaws and difficult questions it's encountering as it evolves and matures? Will transparent discussion help or hurt?
(164 comments) Should Obama, with his polling so low, his support among liberal and progressive democrats deeply flagging, withdraw from the 2012 Presidential race, opening it up for a fresh candidate?
(15 comments) It seems that a lot of the candidates running in the Republican presidential primary have no chance. Why would they be running? My guess is they are trying to pull a Joe Biden-- positioning themselves as strong "brands" with solid national visibility that will make them attractive as the vice presidential running mate.
(48 comments) when Chris Wallace asked her if she was a flake, presumably to let her debunk the reputation, she came back with a substantive response, and now, the right wing echo chamber is working hard to build cred for her, to make her look like a serious candidate-- one who "really cares."
(101 comments) Should the US lead the world in making it illegal and impossible to be a billionaire? Should a limit of $500 or $200 or $100 million be set as a limit to the wealth someone might possess?
Pro: Billionaires wealth give them too much power and human weakness cannot be trusted with it. Wealth should be judged based on the good a person does, not the money he or she has
(44 comments) Frank Luntz, doing a focus group of likely Iowa Republican Caucus goers discovered that many in the focus group believed that Obama was a Muslim and this influenced his decision making. I counted 11 of 25 in the group raising their hands. That's 44%.
(32 comments) the situation is historic, unique, fast-moving and complex. There are no easy, simple answers here, but what's your feel for how the US and its diplomatic efforts are going?
(21 comments) Pluses: She's probably more liberal that other likely candidates, she passed a lot of legislation
Minuses: The right wing would love to see her kept on as an easy target, she took investigations of Bush/Cheney administration off the table.
(148 comments) Should President Barack Obama run for a second term or should he be challenged?
Do you think Obama can win? Do you think, even if he can win, that he'd be good for America?
(24 comments) Too often, people in government disgust me. Democrats, Republicans, Supreme court justices, presidential appointees...
Usually I grit my teeth. Maybe you frown, feel it in your stomach, get pissed off, tighten up somewhere, go limp...
(98 comments) What's your take on Bill Clinton's presidency?
Was it good for the US, good for Democrats, good for workers, good for the middle class, good for US jobs and US industries?
(295 comments) The purpose of this poll is to ask our readers whether we're being too hard on Obama and on the Democrats, but to also get a conversation going on this. Are we being so tough that we've lost you or could lose you as a reader or active part of the community?
(71 comments) The Obama administration is claiming that 75% of the oil that leaked from BP's well has been dealt with-- sopped up, burned, dispersed.
Do you believe the claim?
(38 comments) We don't know yet what effects the oil gushing from the Macondo well will do to the gulf, to Florida, to farmland touched by gulf rain, to the east coast, even to the United Kingdom. Do you think the effects will have a dramatic effect on your life?
(64 comments) Polls are showing that people are not happy with Obama's health care efforts. There are a number of ways to interpret this.
Where do you stand?
(22 comments) Writing ethics. In the new online world of writing, writers can, after they've submitted their article, go back and change it. If they do, and they then pretend it was unchanged, in comments, is that unethical, dishonest and deserving banning, meaning loss of continued privileges to submit articles and comments.
(19 comments) Missy Evans, mother of a son who was punched in the head, who then fell, hit his head and died about a week later, wants to harvest her son's sperm so she can produce a child many believe will replace her son.
Should dead people's reproductive cells be harvesed so replacements could be created?
(33 comments) Should the doctor who did in vitro fertilization, implanting seven embryos into a single woman who already had six children, be punished?
(30 comments) Republicans are pushing Eric Holder to promise not to prosecute Bush Admin people in return for their approving him.
If he acquiesces-- with or without Obama's encouragement-- should th Dems still approve holder?
(123 comments) After eight years of Bush/cheney, most people I know are hopeful that President Obama will make a difference, but a handful seem to believe that we're in for more of the same corporatist, anti-constitutional abuses.
So the question is, do you feel hopeful that things will get better-- that new abuses will decrease, will be pursued by the justice department?
(8 comments) Maybe Hillary didn't want to be VP. Maybe what she wanted all along, if she couldn't be president, was Secretary of State. Maybe she cut the deal before Obama settled on his VP pick.
(19 comments) Would you want an email notifying you that your article, poll, diary or member page was among the most viewed, most commented, most forwarded, highest rated, for a given period of time?
(10 comments) Kerry wimped an quit. Gore gave up when the Supreme court waded in. If the election is close, will Obama challenge the results? Will McCain?
(14 comments) Sarah Palin bombed in her interview with Katie Couric and she's going to hit bottom and break into 700 billion ugly pieces when she debates with Joe Biden. Who Will McCain choose to replace her when Palin withdraws to "take care of her family."
(18 comments) with all the access to phone tapping, has the Bush admin and its surrogates been digging up blackmail material on Dem leaders in congress?
(97 comments) Critics say this is tawdry, tabloid journalism that makes an innocent teenager and single mother a victim.
Supporters say that if it's true that Sarah Palin is lying about who gave birth then her lies are key to defining her character and lack of integrity.
(29 comments) in the spirit of bottom-up participation OpEdNews encourages, please voice your opinion on the two possible rating systems we're considering.
(21 comments) Do you support a federal law requiring equal treatment for all political parties, in terms of rules for registering candidates and getting them on the ballot, including petition requirements and participation in debates?
(40 comments) Now that the news about John Edwards affair is out, now that he's admitted it and told ABC news, now that the major news shows are saturated with reporting on it, did OpEdNews make the right decision posting a link to an article reporting on Edwards scandal?
(34 comments) Did the hate spewed by toxic right wing talk radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and Glen Beck plant the seed of the idea to kill liberal Unitarian church members?
(99 comments) Did you think Obama was a progressive or did you see him, from the beginning as a centrist moderate? If you saw him as a centrist moderate from the beginning, then his positions will not be as big a surprise as if you saw him as a progressive from the beginning.
(15 comments) When you add Keith Olbermann, Andrea Mitchell, JoeScarborough and the rest on MSNBC and, Wolf Blitzer Lou Dobbs, Jack Caffrey, etcetera on CNN, which network cuts the right, McCain, Bush, etc. more slack, repeats the right wing message more?
(53 comments) The leadership of the democratic party have decided that impeachment would hurt the fall elections, and leaving the GOP stuck with an impaired, low rating president will help them. They choose to ignore war crimes, horrific assaults on the constitution and democracy.
(22 comments) Who do you think is most likely to take over at Meet The Press, doing the job formerly done by Tim Russert. I'm not asking you you'd LIKE. I'm asking you do you think is most likely to get the job. There's plenty of speculation.
(35 comments) Dem members of congress all answer that impeachment hearings would hurt Democratic chances this fall. Do you agree. This poll is also part of an article
(28 comments) Scott McClellan's new book is getting a ton of attention. It was obviously vetted and approved by the Bush admin, so there's no serious dirt in it. But the media is going crazy over it. Will it make a difference? Is there anything worthwhile, that will change anything in there? Or is he just a jerk trying to make a profit by pretending to be telling some new truths?
And please comment on your vote and on Scott.
(2 comments) Will Bob Barr's Libertarian presidential candidacy do to John McCain what many say Ralph Nader did to Al Gore? Or will Barr siphon off disgruntled Republican votes that could have gone to Obama?
This poll is also part of this article.
(23 comments) Sellout Faux Dem Zell Miller spoke against John Kerry at the 2004 RNC Convention. Now Lieberman is supporting McCain and calling for censorship on the net. Has Lieberman surpassed Zell Miller? Is He more despicable and more of a turncoat?
(85 comments) The original vision for OpEdNews was to create an online site that covered the wide range of topics daily newspapers and weekly newsmagazines cover. Lately, we've had some of our members comment on our publishing articles on UFOs and extraterrestrials, suggesting they diminish our credibility. OTOH, some of the articles have brought thousands of readers to the site. What do you think? Please leave your comments on this.
(17 comments) In the face of massive criminal actions, constitutional violations and war crimes, the Democrats in congress are taking the position that impeachment hearing swill take up too much time and distract from elections.
(18 comments) Has Reverend Jeremiah Wright Helped or Hurt Barrack Obama with Talks in the last few days with his latest appearances, talks and his interview with Bill Moyers?
(15 comments) When Barack Obama reaches the number of delegate votes needed to have the majority, will Hillary Clinton accept that accomplishment as a loss and withdraw from the primary race or will she continue to insist that this be decided in Denver, at the convention, even though party leaders pressure her to pull out?
