It's probably obvious I'm a CYNICAL PESSIMIST. Why a cynical pessimist? Possibly it's the result of expending a full lifetime defending, first with rifle in hand and then with a legal pad, "truth, justice and the American Way." Observing the less than perfect result and the fact that it must be unending tends to incubate pessimistic cynicism.
There is actually a better answer though. As a pessimistic cynic, I know I'll always be either right or delighted.
I'm probably also affected by the fact I live at the very edge of the earth, about as far as someone can get from our nation's centers of power and still have dry feet. (Minor quibble to establish my unfailing honesty: I don't actually live at the edge. Nevertheless, I really can at least see the edge from here.)
The commentaries submitted to this website are some of the views from that edge, for the most part political and social observations and questions tinged (or perhaps more accurately, tainted) with humor to make the point.
The name "lawless one"? It was my call sign in Nam and ironic in other ways.

It was a serious error to select Rick Warren to give the inauguration prayer, at least it was an error if advancement of equal rights for ALL is still a goal.
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 "BAILING OUT THE BAILOUT"
The Bailout is turning out to be just another fund for the financiers to fill their own pocketbook now that their financial follies have frittered away all their own investors' money. The phrase "financial expert" has come to mean fraudulent or foolish finagler.

Saturday, October 18, 2008 "ANOTHER MICKEY MOUSE THEORY"
Republicans are attempting once again to divert attention from their own propensities for potential voter fraud to others. In psychology, the trait is known as "projection." In litigation, the tactic is when you don't have the facts or the law in your favor, pound them. If not, pound the table.
Friday, October 10, 2008 WHO Really DESTROYED THE ECONOMY? (3 comments)
Eight years since Clinton occupied the White House, but the Republicans have the temerity to suggest that it was really he who is to blame for the current disaster. A few thoughts on the subject.

Or, is everyone a lesser evil? A humorous look at the incredibly long list of who would have better than Bush as President. Call them Bush Beaters.
Friday, July 20, 2007 Vacation Time in Iraq
Since the Iraq Parliament is going on vacation for the whole month of August despite Bush's request that they stay in session, maybe Bush should set a good example and spend the month of August in Baghdad instead of relaxing on his ranch.
Thursday, June 7, 2007 "BUSH'S BUNGLING BARRISTERS"
A possible explanation as to why all the lawyers selected by the Republicans for top government jobs seem to do such a risible job.
Sunday, April 1, 2007 "The New 'Improved' Oath of Office for Political Appointees"
The new wording of the oath of office that Bush appointees at the Justice Department must be using. One thing is for sure, none of the oath taker/breakers ever passed Constitutional Law 101 in law school.
