Hi,
I'm a 66 year old woman, married with 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. I grew up in a family of 8 children. I work in Child Protective Services, with parents who either have abused or neglected their children or who are at risk of child abuse and neglect (generally due to such things as mental health issues, or abuse/neglect because of alcohol/drug use and/or abuse). I have worked in this field for the past 23 years. Poverty is a huge issue for families with whom I am involved, and, of course, many of these families lack adequate housing, medical care, and access to other resources. Our society is structured in such a way as to make it impossible for some of these folks to change their situations.
I enjoy the work that I do and have been involved in management and field work. I enjoy what I do and like the people for whom I provide services.
I love life and there are not enough hours in the day to do what I enjoy doing. I am passionately involved in politics and have strong opinions about what is happening in our world today. I am saddened by the complacency of Americans and the lack of knowledge about the actions of our government. I would like to see a Gore/Feingold Democratic Presidential ticket. I have been actively involved in congressional races and expect to once again become involved.
I have been extremely grateful for the Internet and the Progressive voices with whom I commiserate and am very grateful for Air America Radio and the wealth of information they provide. I am frustrated by the lack of what seems to be 'spine' among our Democratic Senators and Representatives and do what I can do to motivate those who I believe need motivating and express appreciation for those who I believe are on the right track.
We need to take back our Government and to restore the Constitution. I don't want any President to have the power this President has taken!
