Lost: Media Ethics in Newtown, CT
(5 comments) The news media made some major mistakes in their reportage of the December 2012, massacre in Newtown, CT. They not only got the killer's name and the progression of the crime wrong; they came up with their own diagnosis, without benefit of the usual round of testing and doctors' observations, of autism for Adam Lanza. In doing so, they fostered an unfair stereotype of folks with that diagnosis.
