I am a political activist living in Northern California. Over the years I have become increasingly concerned at how misinformed the general public has become and by the "Bread and Circus" style conditions existing in America today. If there is a negative aspect to democracy it would be that it is high maintenance. It requires vigilance by its citizens over those in power. Our main stream media has failed to serve the public's good by catering instead to the multi-national corporate agenda. An ill informed electorate is a great detriment to democracy. This becomes increasingly more dangerous as our national and global crises become more complex.

Few things in our endeavors and enterprises are simple. Usually things are far more complex and multi faceted. My writing is out of a desire to provide the vital contextual aspect to events that I believe is sorely missing in today's news. It enables me to better understand and connect the dots I find are often missing and hopefully will in turn assist my fellow citizens as well. Alternative news sites such as this serve a great purpose but we are mostly preaching to the choir here. My concern is how to reach a mass public that seems satisfied with the 30 second sound bites we call news as sufficient in conveying the often complex and contextual substance on many issues that are vital for us to collectively make sound and healthy decisions about our future. Our best vanguard against corruption and abuse of power and to preserve democracy is to be an informed and enlightened electorate.

Freedom is not free...ignorance is not bliss...to safeguard and protect our own freedoms and Constitution we must scrutinize and hold to account our very own elected officials.

American Protectionism - 30 years too late The drumbeats for protectionism are gaining momentum in the U.S. and aboard, but what do the advocates for protectionism mean in relation to the dynamics of a fully integrated 21st century globalized economy? I raise the question for several reasons, the explanation of which is best conveyed by contrasting international trade today versus that of the 17th century where protectionism has its roots.

Did Speculation or Manipulation Fuel the Oil Price Surge? After watching a "60 Minutes" broadcast recently entitled, "Did Speculation Fuel Oil Price Swings," I became suspicious when "60 Minutes" stated, "...the oil bubble began to deflate early last fall when Congress threatened new regulations and federal agencies announced they were beginning major investigations," but no specifics were given. Recalling the Enron scandal, it seemed we'd been down this road before.

Why Victory in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the War on Terror will elude US Forces Asymmetric warfare in Iraq will make it impossible for the US to achieve victory. US military leaders have understood asymmetric war strategies since the revolutionary war. The insurgents are doing it better and are winning, doing potentially irreversible damage to the US economy.
