Tom was born and raised in Los Angeles where he studied for a BA in anthropology from Cal-State University, L.A. He then traveled the world for a number of years before settling in northern California where he established himself as an organic farmer before continuing his education at the San Francisco Art Institute where he earned an MFA. He became active as an exhibiting artist for the next twenty-five years which included stints as a cultural arts writer for a regional weekly.
Writing has become his way fighting back against the apathy and collapse of culture while he continues to do artwork that takes on political and social issues.
