I grew up thinking that Democrat was the only way to be because my father was a Democrat but I eventually grew up, especially when it was the Democrats who seemed to enjoy taxing me so lazy people could continue to be lazy. Republican was too cozy with big business, so I consider myself a Libertarian (and also a TEA Partier).
Now with Obummer as "president" (I'm still waiting to see that birth certificate that lists his doctor and hospital) and I see his LYING/CORRUPT past, I've become very political (whereas I didn't bother before)
