South Korean president Lee Myung-bak, who trumpeted a hardline stance towards North Korea, appears to be softening now. The Bill Clinton-Kim Jong-il meeting has raised chances of the US directly dealing with the North and bypassing the South. Lee is eating humble pie and dangling carrots of aid and a mutual arms reduction treaty to the North in order to stay relevant.
