Backwoods

"Backwoods" was born and raised in the Territory of Alaska; as a child he homesteaded on a lake in the woods with his parents and family before Statehood. He left the State for some "edukation" and found that podunk Alaska schools had prepared him better than the rich city kids and their private schools. That was his first serious encounter with the Outside world and it taught him more than the college did. He ran a commercial salmon fishing boat in the summers and ended up with a professional graduate degree from a prestigious University. His family has dabbled in Alaska politics but tend to be too stubborn for such occupations to fit well :-) Instead ... he observes with bemused interest as the idiots and uninformed compete on the same political stages as the wise and practical ... and is constantly amazed and fascinated at how much trouble people have in telling the two sorts apart.
