Don't Get Too Excited about Specter Those of us who do not believe that any political party now present on the American scene is the greatest thing since sliced bread may legitimately rejoice/gloat/exult for a few minutes over the irrelevance of the Republican Party for at least the next two years, but let us not in any way rest on our oars.

HAUNTED BY WHICH FAILURE? Robert Gates evidently felt that a defeat in Iraq would haunt us. I'm already haunted-- but not by what spooks the new Secretary of defense. I'm haunted by a whole panoply of things. I'd like to see Congress haunted by them, too.
